Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - April 9, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta 18 THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD Tuesday, April 9, 1974 One of the most vital parts of the newspaper operation is the business office. Perhaps not very glamorous but essential. This is where the customer is first greeted whether he arrives in person or phones in. Here is where questions are answered, bills paid, departments contacted. It is a busy work area for the business office works closely with the advertising and circulation departments. Here all financial transactions are handled and recorded for customers and suppliers. It sends monthly statements (bottom handles and deposits cash and cheques. It handles The Herald's payroll and the company's financial statements and helps plan annual budgets. It maintains records for auditors and government departments. Headed by a business manager the staff includes an accountant, a billing clerk, cashier, invoice clerks, stenographer, switchboard operator (bottom right) and mail clerk. A part of The Herald building, but not of the operation are The Herald Printers, a division of Ronald's Federated Ltd. This fine commercial printing plant, the largest in Lethbridge, rents space in the new expanded Herald plant. Ronald's Federated is a national company with branches coast to coast. For example in other plants it prints Time Magazine and the TV Guide. The local manager is Gerry de Heer. Business department ;
