Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - April 6, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta Canada Pension plan overhaul promised OTTAWA (CP) Promised Canada Pension Pian (CPP) changes that would eliminate any MX discrimination la. the payment of survivors' benefits and remove the earalna test for claimants aged into 60 were introduced in the Commons Friday. The 57-clause bill, which in- corporates changes agreed to by federal and provincial wel- fare ministers, would also alter the amount of earnings from which contributions and benefits are calculated. The CPP amendments part of an overhaul of the social security system which began last April. A two-thirds majority of the provinces had to agree to the changes before the federal government could act. Under another provision of the bill, persons who reject the pension plan for reasons of conscience can opt once in their lifetime to stay out of the CPP.
