The industrial index was of! .M to 197.13, base metals .12 to 96.23 and western oils .49 to 223.27. Golds were up .63 to 176.30. Volume by II a.m. was shares, up from at the same time Monday. Declines held a moderate margin over advances, 113 to 88, with 101 issues unchanged. Moderate losses were suffered by communication, industrial mining, merchandising, oil re- fining, real estate and utility is- sues while banking, chemical, beverage and trust and loan stocks edged fractionally higher.
