SPEAKS At UNITED Principal Thoraae. of Alberta College, wan the speaker at I'nited church no Sunday. At the morning service* lie spoke on "An Indistinct View of Man.'' He said: "We easily grow enthusiastic and wax eloquent over mankind tn the mass, humanity as a high conception, and forget that the real test of our faith in humanity as a whole is our faith til our nest door neighbor, the child, the woman or the man with whom we must daily meet and mingle Jesus begins with the individual. Mo sees in each single person. stew ever degraded, something positively good, to be encouraged and fostered ami drawn out toward God." In the evening Principal Thomas' topic was "The Ufa Indestructible." The abidjug lesson of the recurring Easter season Is that eternal life njny hp accomplished here and now, that men who live and serve in the spirit of Jesus may have the assurance that they are. building into their characters those qualities of life which have permanent and abiding value, which are an indestructible as the character of Ood Himself.. Jesus In His simple life and unassuming ministry .virtually said that I.ove was not on;y "the greatest thing !n the world." but even the only thing In the "world that fs eternal nnd inde Htrurtible, because Love expresses foe very heart and character of God. Thin great principle of life Jesus represented to men in everything which He did. He* even founded a community among men based upon this principle. He came Into conflict with deeply-rooted selfishness and narrow ness of vision s a principle of life, and went to the disgraceful death of tlie cross to seal with His hearts blood this conviction that I.ove is Life, and "Life ia ever lord of death.' Mr. Bickell states that he was greatly pleased with the unanimous support given the Calgary "Y" by the businessmen of that city as it shows what can be done In this great work when the community gets behind it. Splendid Muaic Baptist Church There was neither abruptness nor diversion in any part of the beautiful service given in the Baptist church last night, one of the most harmonious and effective presentations of the life of Christ that could possibly be given. A suggestion by the pastor in an introductory word that it was a service which lent easily to perfect quiet was quickly and effectively contagious, which allowed to the full for the necessary careful interpretation of the music which was done in a masterly fashion by the church quartette, whoee perfect phrase and balance Nhowed more than a mechanical per-] formance. Miss Hael Keith, while suffering from a severe cold, sang "The Children's Friend," splendidly. The church was crowded; many could not be seated suitably. The one criticism waa that the building was too short to let the best effect from such a fine performance. V J&RN THOMPSON-On Monday, April 1, to Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Thompson, 824 7th St. 8., a son.
