Lebanon Advertiser (Newspaper) - April 29, 1863, Lebanon, PennsylvaniaThe Corner. A haunted Castle. A correspondent of the Monde Illustre met Albert de Lasa hts who besides being an author and a musician is a grandson of the Gallant Lasalle who died a general of division at the Battle of Lagrana has lately written a Long and curious letter describing a haunted Castle where he was taken at disadvantage by ghostly visitors. As a matter of course this letter is a great Triumph for the revue spiritualist the Organ of the spirit rappers in France who Are in a hurry to publish it. Here is the letter a i was recently staying at the Castle of f built upon the ruins of the ancient Castle of that name which was situated in the midst of a wild and thickly wooded country about sixty leagues from Paris cited by All ancient chronicles As much As by local tradition As a country haunted by ghosts. About ten of clock in the evening we were All in the parlor together the men Reading the women at their embroidery frames when suddenly a violent ringing was heard underneath in the pantry. A servant made his appearance a did Madam ring the Bellis a no john.?. A but Madam it was the parlor a nobody touched Quot a but listen Madame a the Bell was getting impatient it gave a Quot series of Short rings and then again Long pm als lasting about two upon descending into the pantry All the Bells in the House commenced ringing even the alarm Bell of the Castle contributed its deep tones to this diabolical symphony. Thinking that some deception was being Practised and determined to sift the matter to the Bottom i asked permission to be considered master of the House for an hour or so. A this being granted i commenced operations by closing All the issues and by requesting masters arid servants to come Down into the room where the ringing commenced. This being done i made a minute investigation of each room and assured myself that the wires passed through the Waits and were consequently out of any body a reach. I then de i scented to the pantry where the ringing. Had ass timed the proportions of a tempest. Having espied the most violently agitated Bell i undertook to maintain it in its place by main Force but though using both hands i was unsuccessful besides the Bell was so hot that 1 could not hold it Long. The Castle now commenced to tremble under the blows of an Arr Ray of masons the sound of whose picks striking the Stone was distinctly audible. On passing through a door it immediately slammed to of its own Accord and at the same time the Peculiar gasp Ofa person who is being suffocate i was heard in the As i went up stairs i distinctly heard the sound of an axe striking the Wood Between my feet at each step i took a stones were thrown against my shutters All night and an invisible being but rather heavily booted walked the corridor near my room till morning. I rushed out with a lamp hoping to Surprise this nocturnal pedestrian but Tono purpose. I saw nothing but i could swear that the sound passed within a Yard of me. I questioned some of the most intelligent inhabitants of the place in reference to these strange occurrences. A they All assured me that the Castle off a was subject to being visited by ghosts returned from the grave his first time since a superannuated old Commodore was placed in charge of one of our Navy Yards. One Day a poor Little fellow had just filled his Basket with chips As the gout old Commodore a Hove in sight and growled out a drop that Wood you Young Rascal a drop it 1 Chase ensued. The boy was Small and his Load heavy and presently the old Commodore puffing and blowing seized the boy by the Collar. Jumping away and dumping the chips at his feet the boy exclaimed a take it you darned old ski Flint its the first prize you Ever took in your Law ruins men and fashion there is a fitness in All Thiris except cheap clothes. It is a bad thing to grumble the wheel Isnit oiled till it creaks. A Miller is but a human version of the turn spit dog that toiled every Day to roast meat for persons eating. Or the abolitionists of the town of Ripley Ohio have a characteristic Way of showing their philanthropy. Lately they made desperate efforts arid succeeded in re cuing two negro children from their Kentucky masters and a Day or two afterwards sent two helpless White orphan children whose father is now in the to the poor House. To the credit of the people of Georgetown. Ohio these cd Idren were not permitted to enter me a Normary they were provided with Homes in families of two Good democrats of that place.
