The works contemplated Are the re Newal of the Arches Over the windows plastering the entire exterior Walls correcting some defects in the gutters of the roof erecting a permanent gallery laying the floors and putting up appropriate pulpits. These several works stand classified in the order of their respective importance and the expense of the whole May be estimated at about 400. As the debts originally incurred in the erection of this building still remain undischarged to a considerable amount it is unreasonable to expect any assistance from the Pew rents until these liabilities Are liquidated. The local trus tees have therefore no resource but to a peal to the sympathy of the congregation and the Public generally for assistance. The sum of 70 has recently been Pla ced at their disposal arising from the sur plus lighting fund and a donation from his excellency the governor out of the Public Chest. This amount is placed at the head of the subscription list and whatsoever funds May be contributed in Aid of these works will be carefully expended by the trustees and duly accounted for from time to time. The trustees therefore look with Confidence to the friends of the protestant Faith to assist them in rendering the metropolitan Church an edifice More suitable for divine worship better adapted to the wants of the Community and More Credi table to the capital of this rising Colony.
