Tribune staff writer A Howard County woman died Friday about an hour after a threevehicle accident that occurred in front of her eastside home Vallerya M Kelly 54 Ind 22 at 400 East was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Howard Community Hospital at according to Howard County Coroner Jeff Stout He said an autopsy will be conduct ed this morning to determine the cause of death Everything seems to indicate the cause of death was caused by the Stout said According to Howard County sheriff deputy Mark Ogle Kelly was conscious and was talking after the accident at Ind 22 and 400 East at He said she had several lacerations and bruises and possibly suffered internal injuries Kellys husband and four fami ly members who were passen gers in the van she was driving were treated and released according to Peggy Faulkner at Howard Community Hospital Two child passengers ages 1 and 2 were not injured Ogle said both were in childrestraint seats which prevented injuries Kelly was stopped attempting to turn onto 400 East when the van she driving was hit in the rear by a 1994 Oldsmobile driven by Linda Shearin S Road East Shearin was not injured Ogle said The impact of the collision pushed the Kelly vehicle into oncoming traffic and she was then struck from the front by a 1993 Dodge van driven by Kay A Rees 60 228 E Railroad St Rees was taken to Howard Com munity Hospital and was treated and released Air base has new mission Chrysler may get tax break Company would add jobi McGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE AP This military installation spared from the Pentagon hit list last year embarked Friday on a new expanded mission as a major trans port hub In a ceremony at the Burlington County base McGujre was activated as the 305th Air Mobility Wing for the East Coast The unit number was moved here from Grissom Air Force Base although no personnel or air craft were transferred The designation bolsters the mission at McGuire by adding personnel and aircraft from other military installations About activeduty and 500 reservists are expected to join the base during the transition The major change is the reassignment of two dozen KC10 aerial refuelers to McGuire from refueling By STEVE JACKSON Tribune staff writer The city of Kokomo is consider ing giving Chrysler Corp a tax abatement that could save the automaker thousands of dollars in property taxes over die next 15 years The Kokomo Common Council is scheduled to vote Monday night on a resolution designating Chryslers Kokomo complex as an Economic Revitalization Area The designation would allow Chrysler to enjoy a break on addi tional property taxes it will face on an estimated million worth of new equipment sched uled to be installed in its alu minumcasting facility over the next five years This is its cast ing plant by square feet in order to facilitate increasing pro duction at the adjacent transmis sion facility by units per year According to a statement of benefit filed by Chrysler in con junction with its application for ERA designation the company estimates the expansion will result in the retention of jobs and the creation of 821 new jobs at the Kokomo complex A total of people are cur rently employed at Chryslers Kokomo facilities according to the benefit statement Rudolph said those numbers indicate Chrysler is committed to ensuring the security of its Koko mo complex and the to quell a riot Friday afternoon as fire officials battled a dormitory blaze officials said Johnson County Sheriff Doran Miller said the fire broke out at a dormitory at the center at about Fights then broke out among students Miller said Miller said the fights apparently started because some students thought other students were steal ing their belongings as they evac uated the bunung dormitory
