Everett Goshorn will send an order to the court indicating that the charges against Evans and Hamacher are Morton Andrews had made agreements with Aspy and Hamacher to dis miss their charges in exchange for their testimony in other Kokomo Center Please see P10 Defense attorneys admire their clients strength By MIKE PALUCK Tribune staff writer With the dismissal of charges against four KokomoCenter offi cials defense attorneys discussed the impact the cases had on their Kokomo attorney James who represents Susan KokomoCenters former coordinator of computer and data echoed some of the thoughts his client raised in a ed statement she read at his The attorney Ive had a lot of clients over the and Susan has been one of the most honest ladies Ive ever met that Ive ever And through this ordeal she has remained very and I cer tainly admire her for People dont realize what dev what a burden it is to be publicly charged with to be to be fingerprinted and have your mugshdt and then have it notarized by the and have it brought up almost People dont know what a and how that affects a per And Susan has certainly held up well over this past year and a Shes a very strong She has and were actually relieved that its over so that Susan can go on with her In a later telephone Evans discussed her reason for resigning from the school corpo She said she was getting very tired of being interrogated I just found it impossible to work with the new On anticipating the dismissal of the single count filed against Kathy Kokomo Centers payroll attor ney George Hopkins said she was very and added what it is for is the end of a long Hopkins said Aspys night mare was just being exposed to the criminal system being accused of a being forced to go before the grand the attendant publicity that comes with it just that whole trauma of a person who is forced to endure something like And if theres been any problems at the ad those will go Time has a way of healing some of of But Hopkins went on to say that until everything is put to youre still going to have a certain amount of stress in this situation the until the case of Mitschelen is Indianapolis attorney Robert Hammerle represents Patricia coordinator of fiscal was charged with three Please see P10 Susan Evans has her say and Andrews responds Friday Susan fprmer coordinator of computers and data processing for Kokomo Center School issued a statement about the dismissal of charges that had been pending against her in Howard Circuit This is her statement I was not surprised to hear that charges against me had been dropped because Ive known all along that I did nothing wrong and that Andrews Howard County Prosecutor James Andrews would not be able to prove I am very bitter that my life has been turned upside down over the past year and a half because of the accusations Andrews has made which had no I was never involved in any conspiracy to receive extra nor was I ever involved in any cover up of any portion of my pay or anyone My former position at Kokomo Schools as an administra tor was approved by the School Board and contrary to Andrews statements as his press conference in 1993 I nave never received a salary increase that was not approved by the School The salary figure on each of my contracts was calculat ed according to a Boardapproved Administrative salary Andrews seems to think he can say and do as he pleases with no regard for whether or not it might devastate the lives of inno cent people and he doesnt feel he should be accountable for He violated several Indiana Codes during the Grand Jury proceed ings by divulging grand jury testi mony and inviting attorneys to present legal among other things and when he real ized that these errors in grand jury proceedings were going to cause him some he simply dropped the grand jury charges and refiled them using a probable cause he believes he should not be held accountable for anything he did or said during the grand jury pro ceedings because the charges are no longer grand jury I have had to delay seeking employment because of the peno ing charges against even though Andrews has received no new information for several has known for quite some time that there was no basis for the charges against The prosecutor has dismissed the charges against me but that doesnt dismiss the loss of and financial burden which I have been forced to endure over the past 1 12 I have had to endure a great deal of humiliation in having my name in print repeatedly along with words like and conspira cy and the humiliating experience of going to the jail to be finger printed and photographed is one which I will never be able to for I amrelieved that it is but very angry about the damage that has been done to me with no Andrews has tried sev eral times over the past few months to make a deal with stating that he would drop the charges against me if I would repay the money for unused vaca tion days which I received in the summer of refused to repay money for which I worked and to which I was I believe that when Andrews examined the evidence more closely and talked to some people who had accurate he realized that I had committed no but he wanted me to repay the money so that he could have a reason for dropping the charges and so he could interpret that repayment as an admission of wrongdoing on my I also believe that Andrews had done a thorough investigation initially and had talked with people who had accu rate information instead of listen ing to hearsay and secondhand accounts of some secretaries at the administration building and inter preting that to suit his indictments would never have been issued against After reading a copy Evans statement Friday Prosecu tor James who was joined by investigator Tom had this response Number I dont know how Susan Evans could give any legal opinions which she It appears to me that someone else is giving her legal opinions this is not a statement of Susan its a statement by her who now happens to be a candi date opposing me for With regard to the information about secretaries and secondhand things that went on at the school I suggest you talk to Roger Because Roger Thornton has detailed information as to what based on admissions by Susan Evans to And if you recall the reasons that I placed in the motion to nolle 1 stand by theres some writing in there that says you didnt do a very thorough Did you see that Melton Those peo ple testified before a grand jury and the grand jury returned and then subsequent to there was information turned over to a judge and he found probable Subject to there was informations turned over to another he found probable Three other or two other people at this point have subsequently been so I dont know how thorough a job they want me to I thought I did pretty Andrews With regard to saying that I have tried several times over the past few months to make a I have talked with Fleming one and one time Ive never had any communication with One night after the trial jpf Larry I got a telephone that said if I try another KokoinO Center Ill end up Asked if he knew where the call came Andrews responded Absolutely dont recognise the but thats what Im tired of being thrgat Im tired of being ques I did my did what was and the results of these cases show I have been threatened so many times in this its unbe Ive been threatened hundreds of But those are violent not white collar crime As a matter of my wife made one request of me when I got that She said that if they do anything to me or your that you promise that youll continue in these Now youre get ting the whole what Jim Fleming writes down on a piece of paper tor Susan Evans to read to The Kokomo Tribune attempted to contact who was not available to
