Tribune staff writer a three hour informational meeting on a proposed million computer system Purchase for Kok Mocenter schools was just that informational Kok Mocenter school Board members listened to various presentations on the possibility of purchasing such a system initially offered by Jos tens learning corp of Phoenix Ariz however they did not make any motion with regards to such a Purchase at the special monday night meeting superintendent Larry Homer was the first to present a report on the proposed Purchase discussing the status of the capital projects fund and How such a project would affect the tentative expenditures Over the next two to three years according to Horner major renovations and additions planned in the next few years will draw heavily on available capital projects funding he cited the planned additions to Kokomo High school South Campus and the Kokomo area career Center by 1994 that could total million those renovations will command much of the future funding and will Transfer about 70 percent of funds to debt service he said major renovations at Bon air school Are also a priority that must be considered Horner said also the corporation is consider ing the possibility of moving the ninth Grade students from the downtown Campus to the South Campus to accommodate the room Larry Horner shortage that it is currently fac ing this Type of move would also put a Drain on existing funds if the school corporation were to Purchase a computer system of this size Horner said a major por Tion of the Cost would Likely be covered by million in unencumbered funds from 19881990 capital projects funds an additional has already been allocated for three Pilot schools in the corporation to Purchase com Puter equipment for the remaining of the offer Horner cited two Possi ble options the first is to give the elementary and High schools priority and not Purchase computers for the Middle schools this would cover the difference Horner said the second option is to look at the tentative 1991 capital projects fund allocations and move a por Tion of what would have been spent at Bon air school during the first year of its two year renova Tion to the second year if the school corporation does make the Purchase Upkeep of the system would be about each year this too must be Horner said information on Pilot programs and a presentation by Jos tens was also Given at the meeting attended by approximately 90 people As far As the system being offered everybody at the meeting seemed to be in agreement the Jos tens offer was More than Ade quate the accountable this one is we Are convinced that this system is Good and we think this is something the school corporation should go said an unidentified representative from Bon air school if such a system is to be online by the fall semester a proposal and Board action will have to take place at one of the next two Board meetings said Community relations officer Steve Alley Horner said such a proposal could be ready by the april 23 meeting commissioners preparing list of potential jail Sites Bidav Wiethop Tribune staff writer the Howard county Board of commissioners said monday it is preparing a list of potential jail Sites for the county Council to consider but the Threeman panel is mum about those locations were not ready to reveal those said Board president James Shearer monday the Sites Are Shearer hinted and include some Farmland and some Industrial areas he also said the county officials May have to consider having two places with one for the new jail and one for the pro posed juvenile detention Center we would prefer one said commissioner Jerry Elliott Shearer also said the commissioners Are not highly interested in some of the Sites they will pro pose to the Council however they will submit a list to the Council to quicken the negotiation process the Sites will be part of a Resolution the Council will examine during their april 24 meeting the commissioners have still not ruled out putting the new jail on the current jail property at 623 s Berkley Road Shearer and other commissioners said the Uptown site at the intersection of main Buckeye and Superior streets is still in the running As Well since the beginning of the year the county Council has ruled out a plot of land near Wallace school and a portion near the Urbandale and Orleans Southwest subdivisions residents of those areas protested saying a jail does not belong in a residential area and would pose safety problems and lower property values the commissioners said they Are planning to have More than one plot of land in their Resolution to the Council because they Are concerned with the amount of time taken on this Issue according to an architects study the county officials should
