Calls For a good long conversation on Saturday with Dr. Roy Brandon Secretary of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association. The chief eub Ject discussed was the present posi- tion of the Local and other important topics of sport were touched on. Dr. Brandon said he would like to erase from the minds of pro- moters of local athletes end all concened that the Local Asso- ciation is out of existence. He would admit that due to his recent illness which took him to the coun try tor a few things with regard to the Association were not functioning as he wanted them and due to this the conclusion was reached by many that the J.A.A.A. was completely viped out. That Was not so. The Association was still a per- fectly constituted and was quite prepared to restart active eer Vice at any moment. It was how- ever felt that for Association to re tackle the problems of local track affairs there would have to be a complete assurance that con- ditions would be espe- cially among the men of the for while it could not be honestly said of all. the greater number of these men were opposed to in- novation involved in the existence of the and did much to hinder the worlt to the On the receipt of tho official in- vitation some months ago from the Sports Committee of the Inter- colonial meet to be held in British Guiana In August this the As- sociation endeavoured to select a representative team of track men to that continued Dr. but hovr could they done a when there was so much uncertainty with regard to the attitude of the men to- wards the The propo- sition therefore fell through. Dr. Brandon went on to say that he noticed that there had been a good many sports promoted re- cently without the sanction of the e Association. There even two men who were expelled from the track for very unsportmanllke ac- tions on the track whilst in com- petition some time who are now riding with the other men in sporting events. This shows clearly that both the expelled men as well as the others have not taken cogni- zance of the ruling local athletic body. And if things reached such a stage it were better they left it as they were. But now if the men thought that it was necessary that the J.A.A.A. should be re-estab- Is re-start its opcra- Donf let It ttntfl It develops into something much more serious. I assured Dr. llrundon that he would find a grrat difference in at- titude among the men of the track to-day to that which obtained net long ago. Dr. Brandon said finally that while he would not promise to be as energetic in the performance of his duties as due to health he would see to it that a man fit for the ppsitlon and one who was popular with all local track men be appointed as secre- but ho must first receive the declaration of each team that ho would he faithfully supported. This declaration of conscientious support I trust will be eent to Dr. Brandon without delay. EFFAT. TORIES HOLD SEAT. Feb.
