Kingsport Times (Newspaper) - December 21, 1953, Kingsport, TennesseeKingsport times monday december 5 Beatrice Fairfax says there is no real answer to unfaithful Man problem Hill Speaks to Appalachia club Appalachia spa Pound Lions club received its charter monday evening a dinner and lady s night at Pound High school. More than a Hundred week s club events i just can t stand this break much longer and i Don t know what to do about it. Would you know any what is this woman talking about an unfaithful husband. Perhaps you guessed it. And when she asks me if Parent teacher ration s s know any answer i am quite association monday a sched monday were present. The charter was presented to e. C. Mcpherson president of the club by Gordon Ruble District governor of Pearisburg a. He explained the duties and respond sure she Means can i suggest any Way she can prevail upon him to put an end to his extra marital and be a Good husband again. It s hardly necessary to say that no matter what attitude one Advisee a betrayed wife to adopt no guarantee goes with it that it will bring about the re sult she so urgently desires. About the Best anyone can do is to Tell her the approach to the problem that might be More effective than some others and i la get to that in a minute. First let s listen to her Story until this last year my Hus band and i have always got along Fine together but lately i was told that he has been seen with other girls. At first i did t believe what people said but so Many have told me the same tale that it must be True. I love my husband very much and it almost kills me to hear such things. I have tried so hard to be a Good wife but i guess i must have failed somewhere. Used. Instead there will be a Christmas play presented tues Day evening at . Town and country Garden club ., with mrs. But the other night while i was at work someone came in and told me they saw him at a dance. I got off from work and went to the dance to see for myself and program women s missionary society of Sunnyside Baptist Church 2 . At the Church. New arrivals Donald Lee and Donald Lee there he was. When he came Home i told him about it and he denied everything. I have thought of leaving him and even started once but found i just could t do it. I love him too much and besides it just does t seem fair to our son who loves his father More than now take up the question of whether or not there is any answer to such a problem. I perhaps i should begin by saying that the tactics used by most wives who find themselves in this kind of situation Are definitely not the answer. As a Rule wives react to the discovery of a husband s infidelity with either bitter tears or furious anger and both Are equally futile. Out of the experience of Many years listening to stories told me by women whose husbands have been unfaithful i have acquired the conviction that a carefully planned and quietly carried out course of action is far More effective than emotional outbursts and violent scenes can Ever be. It this woman is prepared to take my advice then i would urge her to make up her mind never to resort to crying plead ing reproaching or threatening. Her husband now knows that she is aware of what is going on. If she keeps silent about it it is almost certain to make More impression than if she continually harps on it for silence is very Likely to Start him wondering just what she is thinking about which is All to the Good. I advise her to make no change for the present at least in her Way of living except if possible to go out More in her Leisure hours and find interests that will give her something else to think about besides her unhappiness. It will not be easy i realize to take part in very much activity outside the Home when she works at night but perhaps she can find some hours now and then during the week when she might see More of her friends. On week ends moreover perhaps she could manage to get away from Home occasionally if she has relatives near by whom she and her liitle boy could visit. In other words i believe she should try the Experiment of be ing away from her husband rather than trying to keep an Eye on him. If she will make this experi-1 Over a reasonable period of time signs May begin to appear that her husband is doing some thinking. He May even show that he begins to realize he had better Start thinking of her. It will require patience and persistence and a great Deal of i to go through with i such a program but i feel sure that it is More Likely to bring results that will eventually make the future clearer than anything else she can do.
