Lindsay Almond Jr. has won the support of a group that once opposed him for a seat on the U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals. David S. Kane of New York, president of the American Patent Law Association has written Sen. Eastland, D-Miss., urging confir- mation of Almond's appointment. Eastland is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He heads a three-man subcommittee which will start hearings on the Almond appointment Tuesday. Kane cited Almond's "com- mendable application" and "ac- quired experience" in the seven months Almond has served on the court by an interim appoint- ment. A copy of the letter be- came available here. The association opposed Al- mond's appointment earlier, said Kane, because it has consistently urged the appointment of a judg with patent law experience. President Kennedy's nominatio of Almond never came up for hearing at the last session of Con gress. There was speculation tha Eastland, a good friend of Se Byrd, D-Va., was aware of the political rift between Byrd an Almond over Virginia's massiv resistance to school integratio policy. Recently, however, Eastland an nounced hearings would be hel on the nomination. Eastland, in Washington, de clined to release the Kane lette Almond, a former Roanok Hustings Court judge and con gressrnan, has served on th bench of the patent court sine last November under an interi: appointment. Almond said he was "deep] gratified" at the Kane letter. Lord Ogilvy's younger brother, Angus Ogilvy, is presently honey- mooning with his wife, Princess Alexandra. Before their marriage earlier this month Angus figured in a number of car smashes. Referring to this, Lord Ogilvy said, "The latest example was most unfortunate in that m younger brother had a crash i front of Kensington Palace tw nights before his wedding." During Angus' engagement h involved in two othe smashes. None was serious, hov ever. Lord Ogilvy's youngest brothel James, has also had his share o car trouble. "In said Lord Ogilvy, my family is a poor insuranc risk all around, particularly to jewelry." Over the years there have bee jewelry losses from theft.
