An out of court settlement reached in last june in a Long standing Legal Battle involving the property cleared the Way for the state to take ownership of the land for state Park use. Since then work has been underway to secure the $10.1 million needed for the acquisition. An Onslow county business has stepped up to help with the plans that will expand the total size of the Park which includes Bear Huggins and Jones islands by 25 percent. Subaru of America in partnership with its Jacksonville based Dealership recently made a $6,000 donation to the friends of the hammocks and Bear Island through the National automotive company a share the love Campaign. Febi president David Pearson said National automotive group is involved in various activities at hammocks Beach state Park including military appreciation Day and the North Carolina paddle fest and the donation to the friends group which supports the Park will help fund costs associated with the planned expansion.
