general re views at the reviews held during the past week there appeared representatives from practically All the mining companies in the District and a general invitation was extended to any and All persons interested directly or indirectly to appear and offer any information they might possess bearing on the situation As a result of the weeks review of the situation the commission decided to substantially adhere to the Finlay report As a basis of valuation and assessment the valuation of the properties re viewed in the four counties has been fixed at As compared with the present assessed valuation of considerable differences in opinion were developed among the mining men themselves As to How far the Finlay report represented the True valuation of the Michigan Iron mines but All argued for at least some reduction of the Finlay valuations there was no essential disagree ment on the proposition that the Fin valuation of the Iron mines of Michigan As a whole or of the several districts As a whole is not excessive but when it comes to distributing this value specifically among the mines it involves Assumption As to the Exten Sions and life of the individual mines which might not be justified in the individual cases to illustrate the sum of the values of Twentyfive mines comprising a District is probably Short of the total value of the District be cause of the Large probability of Exten Sions of Ore beyond the present mines and because the future deficiency of one mine will be compensated by sex sess in another the most vigorous discussions therefore waged around the tonnage estimates and expectation of life of individual properties a considerable number of companies made no protest along this line excepting the a Praia is estimate others made claims for urge reductions
