Ironwood News Record (Newspaper) - November 11, 1911, Ironwood, Michigan In 5 prosecutes Hunters Escanaba men arrested for shipping game out of Michigan at last the secret is out for Sev eral weeks Charles e Brewster an employee of the United states biological Survey has been spending much of his time in the upper Peninsula and when questioned regarding his Busi Ness Here he looked mysterious has made the first arrest of its kind to be made by a Federal officer in the state of Michigan the shipment of Birds from Escanaba was caught in transit in Milwaukee by the Federal officers and held As having been ship Ped in violation of the criminal code of the interstate Commerce Laws immediately upon the arrest being made or Brewster was notified and he went to Milwaukee after Ascer Taining the facts regarding the Case he went to Escanaba where on Mon Day he consulted with Deputy game Warden Herman Leisner though the name of neither the shipper nor the person to whom it was consigned could be distinctly made out the ship ment was traced tuesday to Nicholas Niece or Niece admitted having made the shipment and involved Wil Liam Hart in the transaction the lat Ter having packed the Birds in the Box and delivered them to the express office by this act he made himself liable under the Federal Law the same As or Niece or Niece and or Hart were brought before Justice Glaser in Escanaba where they were charged with violation of the Michigan state Law in having shipped Birds out of the state they pleaded guilty or Niece being fined 825 and costs while or Hart got off with a
