Force will be worked All summer Early in the week it was reporte on the streets that the Newport min ing co intended to make a reduction of Between five and six Hundred me in the Force working at the Newpor mine these reports being follow by others that the Oliver mining co and Cleveland iils Iron co als were planning on letting out a larg number of men the facts Are that the Force at the Newport mine has been reduced Abou four Hundred during the presen week that this big property is stil working a excess of 1000 men and in All probably will give employ ment to that number and More during the coming summer that the Oliver and Clevelan Cliff officials either Here or at Duluth and Ishpeming know nothing of any Plai for retrenchment at their Ironwood mines that the local mines of Al three companies Are making Gooc Earl season shipments to our Lake port at Ashland that present prospects Are that All of the summer Loist of All the mines in Ironwood will be shipped to the furnaces Ana that shipments from stockpiles Are expected to be heavy enough to clean up practically every stockpile in this City this is a conservative summary of the situation so far As the Ironwood Camp is concerned and even those pessimistically inclined May find Bright spot or two if they will but shift their optics for an instant the news record knows that the gentlemen higher up in the manage ment of these concerns Are decidedly optimistic As to the Early future of the Iron and steel business and feel that the close of the reason will find that their concerns have done a Good business the Newport with its abnormally Large Force of 1000 is in need of re habilitation in places and these re pairs renewals and alterations can be carried on much better with its nor Mal Force at work than they could with equipment working thigh pres sure development work at both the new port and Anvil mines will be carried on without interruption giving employment to the same number of men As
