land Beaumont of Wayne and Woodman of Berrien won out in Field of five for two places to be filled Robt a Douglas House votes for tonnage tax following More than three hours debate tuesday afternoon the Graves Mcnaughton tonnage tax Bill was passed by the House by the vote of fifty five to thirty seven three efforts to Amend the Bill failed while one to substitute the word refined Copper instead of Copper Ore was successful a motion to have action postponed for a week introduced by representative Bierd for speaker Baker was also Defeated the representatives from the upper Peninsula fought the measure hard knives and Forks at a set As Good As the Best and better than most our own Brand c m bean miss Bowden renominated harmonious meeting of go Gebic county republicans held Friday night a Large and representative gather ing of the republicans of go Gebic county was held at the City Hall in this Cit last Friday night for the purpose of nominating a candidate for county commissioners of schools and electing nine delegates to represent go Gebic county in the state convention held on March 2 at Saginaw Bush chairman of the county committee Pas chairman of the con j Alexander Secretary miss Laura Bowden of Ironwood who has filled the position of county commissioner of schools for one term was renominated As the party Candi Date for the place without opposition the unanimity of the action of the delegates was a deserved compliment to miss Bowden who has performed the duties of the office with much tact and ability the following delegates were elected to the Saginaw convention d was found about them and also a pair of trousers taken from Raesser store and a lot of dry goods from Perls store the two women and their daughters were Given a preliminary hearing in municipal court monday afternoon on the charge of grand larceny their guilt was easily proven and they were bound Over to the Cir Cuit court under 8500 Ball each on tuesday they All appeared before act ing county judge Mccully and plead guilty to the charge and on next tuesday will receive their sentences the penalty for grand larceny is from one to live years in Waupun this is not the first time the women have been caught in the act of stealing As we understand several of them were fined in Bessemer recently on the same charge they doubtless expected a Fine if caught Over Here but with a prison term
