Friends to the cause College of physicians and sur Ertons. A reporter of the people paid a visit to this new institution Northwest Corner Indiana Avenue and Tennessee Street Ryan s Hall on wednesday last and was truly surprised at the vast and substantial improvements going on there. The Entrance to the College is by an easy Well lighted stairway seven feet wide off of Tennessee Street and one slight turn lands the visitor on the third floor in the Long seven foot hallway of the College which leads into the College lecture Hall proper. On the right of the Entrance Hall is a Beautiful room 25 feet Square for the use of the faculty and office of the College and is fitted up to perfection. On the left of this Hall is first a reception room connected with the free dispensary Well seated and warmed for the reception of the poor of the City who will be treated prescribed and cared for at All times free. To the East of the reception room is a room 30 by 40 feet used As the Laboratory of chemical room supplied with three Long desks and along the entire Center of each one several shelves on which Are to be found a full line of drugs and chemicals for the use of the students. With nine students on either Side of these desks fifty four can at one time enjoy the manipulations of chemical study in actual operation and no mythical or fabulous invention. Complete and necessary apparatus for All investigations and experiments in chemistry Are in this room. The lecture Hall is a Model one indeed. There is probably nothing like it East or West when Light and ventilation Are considered. Its seating capacity is Over 350 seats which Are round Back chairs placed in half Circle each rear Circle being raised above the one before it until the last one which is fully a ight feet above the floor. To the ceiling is Twenty two feet. Two tiers of windows one above the other reach from the floor to the ceiling. Not Only in the lecture Hall but in every room connected with the College is this the Case and the question asked by thousands of medical students everywhere Quot How is your ventilation and Light Quot is completely answered to the Satis faction of the most scrupulous in the College i Large tables plenty of room around Thein and an immense blackboard adorn the South end of the lecture Hall and the professor a will have no trouble to give Complete demonstration to every student in the room were it full All the session. The anatomical room on the South of the lecture Hall has and Here the reporter passed in with a shudder a Long line of tables apparatus and All necessaries close at hand for fifty students to Lear ii of what and How the human body is tied hinged and Woven together. The pros injects for the first and opening term of the Central College is quite flattering and the faculty composed of physicians and surgeons of years of experience and among the very Best in the state has much to do in making it an institution second to none anywhere. The first annual announcement of the Central College of physicians and surgeons this City gives the College calender for 1879 and 80, As follows september 15?monday?preliminary course begins. October 1?wednesday?regular session begins. December 25?christmas holiday.1980. January 1?new year Holiday february 20?friday?examination in the graded department begins. February 2?monday?examination for degree begins. March 1?monday?commencement. March 15?monday?spriiw Sion bet june 7?monday?spring session ends. His patients have numbered into the hundreds and he is invariably commended by those who visit him. He is not bleeding Money from the Public but when his customers Are responsible or Well to do he does not accept a fee until a cure has been accomplished. Intelligent persons will appreciate these facts in regard to or. Greenleaf. The herbalist who understands his profession is naturally popular with intelligent persons. Hence one of the reasons for the Success of or. Greenleaf. Being a Plain spoken reliable responsible Man he cannot afford to follow the device of a quack doctor. He asks the sick and the feeble especially those who have been Given up by other physicians to Call upon him. Consultation will be free and Relief May be afforded even where Hope has Long been abandoned. Or. The Cincinnati enquirer of a recent Date gives the particulars of a rape and a Lynching which occurred in the latter part of last week in Boone county ky., Only a Short distance from the Paris of America Cincinnati. We reproduce the account the Story of the rape. There is a White girl of fourteen years named Ella Kearney living with the family of or. Fielding Dickey a Well known Farmer and citizen residing about three Miles beyond the town of Union in Boone county and eighteen Miles from Cincinnati. She was taken by mrs. Dickey to raise and is charged with such household duties As Young women Are usually called upon to do at a farm Home. There was also a negro named Willis Jackson who came lately from Virginia and had been in the employ of or. Dickey for a month or so last past. He drove the Carriage for them during the Florence fair just closed. On thursday morning about one o clock this Amtal Black Rascal availing himself of the darkness of Midnight and the helplessness of the sleeping family nned open a window leading into Ella s room on the ground floor of the Back part of the House entered and of course was not Long in fully accomplishing his hellish purpose. The Black Devil s threats and the poor girl s fright and innocence of an adequate Conception of the terrible Fate upon her aided by the distance and seclusion from the other inmates of the House prevented any alarm being Given and the ravished after satisfying his lust to his fill left his mined victim tied to a bed Post where she was found sick and Sui Ferine at the usual hour of the household arising. A Little six year old child who always occupied the room too Young to know during the night what had happened was yet old enough to see when Daylight had come and she had awakened that some Quot ing was wrong and sow apprised the family of the Captivity of poor Ella who had now been a prisoner for nearly it in hours. She told what bad happened and the Pursuit of Willis Johnson was immediately set on foot. Or. Dickey his son. Or. Fielding Dickey and his neighbors Paschal Robinson Michael Carey Perry Mclaughlin and Quot buddy Quot Carpenter scoured the country Between the scene of the crime and Richwood station on the Cincinnati Southern Railroad station and about 2 o clock the same afternoon were rewarded by catching the criminal on mrs. Sarah Grubb s place about six Miles Distant. They took him Back to uni offi where a trial waa had before Squire Bannister result Hig in the Identie cation of the prisoner by Liis victim his holding by the magistrate to answer the charge of rape and his committal temporarily to the town Hall under guard. As to what happened Between this and the Lynching our information is not Clear. Some say the negro proposed to give bail if permitted to go out and look up a Bondsman but the probabilities Don t seem to Lay in that direction. Possibly he was taken out under pretence of getting bail for him and possibly his guards knew this to be a false pretence. However that May be he was taken out As soon As uie Little town had settled squarely Down to its regular night s quiet. On this particular night this was considerably later than usual Oving to the i usual excitement. It was about ten o clock when Willis Johnson started on his March to death. His armed executioners a band sufficiently Strong to make his Quot safety Quot a perfectly sure thing though their numbers and who they were Are their own carefully kept secrets took Willis out on the Road leading to or. Dickey s House to a Point within a half mile of that place. H Ere they stopped told the now or hed criminal that he had to die and that he might As Well confess his crime that he had better not go into eternity with a lie of his lips. Thus urged he confessed the commission of the outrage. His arms and legs were then pinioned and he was stood up in the Road and riddled with bullets. Fully Twenty Chaimea Vivere Fred into him and the abominable Carcas left there to whatever Fate might befall it. There it was discovered by innocent travellers yesterday Momii and the Coroner of the county notified. The condition of the girl at our last accounts were very serious. Her mental terror and bodily abuses were severe in the extreme and there was Lively fear of Graver consequences than had yet ensued if that were possible.
