Two years of its life were spent at Rock Ford Twenty four at Seymour and the last two in Indianapolis. It a still heading for the Haven of rest with enormous steam pressure and a consignment of several thousand precious souls. Still there is ample room on Board for More through passengers. To All these peace and rest at the end of the journey Are positively guaranteed. Seymour ind., has been making considerable clamor about fair grounds and the bringing of manufacturing enterprises from Aurora and Jeffersonville. But this clamor has merged itself into a demand for the building of another Church. The Church will be built the other enterprises will be left. Religious rivalry and the glory of god demand the Church while there is nothing but the earthly interests of the Community demanding the fair and factories. If religion could bring about the supremacy of love Over hate it would be Worth having but the records of history forbid the Hope that the religious senti ment will Ever reclaim the race from cruelty from the passions of hate and jealousy and revenge and from War. If god is love if the essence of religion were love and it was Universal there could be no hate no cruelty no persecution but in countries were the Christian religion most prevails do All the evil passions of the heart most abound. We must therefore look to something better than religion to bring the millennium of Universal Harmony and love and peace. March 12th the lying Telegraph attack cd a most honorable and spotless evangelist. Rev. Brother a. M. Roper by name Good brother Roper s Zeal for souls led him to Mansfield Ohio. There he should have lodged with brother and sister Hettinger. Sister Hettinger should have been revived very much by the reverend revivalist. Puzzling too is it to understand How the disembodied soul can rest comfortably either in the atmosphere surrounding our planet or in the thin cold space beyond it. And Assum ing that its abode is upon some other planet either hot or cold according As the beliefs were orthodox or the reverse while in the Bod even then another insuperable difficulty arises. The other planets Are so Distant from ours that it would require an incalculable length of time for the disembodied spirit to reach its destination. If the abode of disembodied souls is upon other planets the interstellar space must be full of souls in transit like migratory Birds for their future abode. Brothers Mains Hodapp and Tevis had to do the singing the girls All got mad because the sister who led the choir had made arrangements for choir meetings every week several weeks appointed the time and they would All go and wait and wait for her and she neither would go or Send word she could not go and they got mad and tired of it and now the choir is Quot busted Quot with no one left but herself. They Are having a big time. They All hate the sister Leader because she does not keep her promises As christians ought to. The secular papers puff the Good work and god is greatly glorified. This leads to a More cheerful paying of the minister s salary and reconciles us to Church exemption from the burdens of government. The value of this spasmodic religion is not to be estimated by dollars and cents the saving of precious souls being the object and not the bettering of the individual or society. If the soul is saved and the Church made stronger reasonable expectation has been fulfilled. Those people whose religion consists in paying their debts discharging honestly their duties to their fellow men and living upright sober and moral lives make poor Church members and Are of Small account to the lord. It seems that the Cornelia Culbertson orphans Home a to be run into sectarian channels and yet it a supported by the to Ayers. The Public press Haa always been a warm supporter and advocate of the orphans Home and its managers and would not utter a word derogatory of the institution and those controlling it so Long a it a conducted properly. The society has a Bill before the Board of county commissioners this term for $821 for caring for the orphans in the orphans Home of Thia City for the Paat three months. Under the Law the ladies of the Home Are allowed 5 cents per Day for caring for the orphans. The Bill has not been allowed and the county attorney has the matter under consideration As to whether it can be allowed under the Law. Within the past few years there Haa been considerable complaint among tax payers that the Cost of taking care of the orphans was beyond the Bounds of necessity and Charity. Besides there seems to be a disposition on the part of some parties to fill up the institution with children regardless of the fact As to whether they Are needy or not. There should be Reform in this matter. Let us be just As Well As merciful and charitable and not sectarian and fanatically religious.
