The convention is being held at the University of Illinois Campus. The delegates left july 15 and will return july 19. Aza and big Are preparing for the upcoming spirit weekend to be held july 23-25. Close to 100 by you ers will be attending the three Day affair. Out of town guests will be coming in from Gary East Chicago and Hammond. Also attending Are both Aza and big regional presidents. Joanie Winters and Alvin Katzman Are the coordinators for this affair. Class has vacancies there Are still some Quot vacancies in the Mah Jonggu class which starts tuesday from 10 30 to 11 30 . There is no fee for Center members and a $2 registration fee for non members. Mrs. Sam Engel is the instructor. A baby Sitter will be available. Water Carrier work on the National Carrier in Israel to conduct part of the water of Lake Kinnere sea of Galilee to the parched regions of the South is nearing its end. The project conforms to the unified water plan for the Jordan River Basin negotiated by the late ambassador Eric Johnston in 1955, and does not impair the rights of any of Israel s neighbors. A parallel scheme presumably also in accordance with the unified plan is being carried out by the kingdom of Jordan. Approximately 320 million cubic meters of water will eventually be made available each year by the Israel Carrier to irrigate what is today largely a desert most of that volume has hitherto emptied itself wastefully into the dead sea. Looking backwards 1 year ago Earl Montgomery a key staff member of the jewish Community Center died last week at the age of 56. He had retired As the Center s superintendent of building and grounds nearly two years before. Montgomery was one of the country a outstanding water safety experts. For years he trained All life guards employed by the City spools. He was the Center s athletic director for Many years As life guard swimming instructor and physical education worker. He played a major role in the planning and construction of the Center in the 1950s and was primarily responsible for the development of the adjoining grounds. Montgomery spent Many Winters in Florida to be close to the water sports he loved so much. He once was also credited with holding the world record for staying under water. David Fogle president of congregation by Nai torah has been appointed vice president of the Midwest Region of the Union of orthodox jewish congregations of America. His appointment was announced by rabbi Ronald Green president. This is Fogles fourth year at this Post. 5 years ago sol Blickman was re elected president of the Indianapolis hebrew congregation. He will serve a term of 10 years. During his first term 1950-1960, membership at the congregation increased from 520 to 751. Blickman is Active in Many other civic services. He was a founder of Avondale playhouse one of the founders of the Community concert service and served As vice president of the Delaware Trail school teacher Parent club. Michael Diamond educator at the Jea for the last five years resigned from his Post in order to accept a position in Denver Colo. In addition to teaching he will be involved in planning and organizing youth programs. Apart from his teaching activities in Indianapolis or.
