Cohen you May or May not have noticed that there has been comparatively Little news of this years annual jewish welfare fund Campaign in the to. And we hasten to let you know that our policy has not changed. Throughout the years we have followed the judgement that during the time of the annual drive this is the big news and consequently we have devoted our front Page and More almost entirely to Jef news year after year. This year weeks have gone by and there has been no news releases submitted to us by the Jef. People who spend their time and Effort soliciting funds for jewish causes Are never really repaid except in their own knowledge that they Are performing a Mitzvah. But Here is one place where a paper like the p-0 can serve. Consequently week after week we should have had photos of various individuals and groups messages from the drive leaders and our rabbis and other informational material a for instance the team captains and their workers a that would Reward the individuals at least to this extent. We can Only surmise Why after 35 years of coverage of Jef campaigns in Indianapolis this year the publicity program has been changed. We have Ridden the federation and or. Newman and not excepting president Martin Larner very hard. This is something that people find difficult to accept but it is what a newspaper should be doing if it does not forget to pay tribute also when what is being done is praiseworthy. And certainly this is a Well run jewish Community in the sense that its institutions Are ably conducted and function smoothly. Fund raising Wise we Are among the top in the nation which is a Sharp change from not too Many years Back Vogt a Frank Newman first came to the City. But As for creativity fulfilling needs that go beyond having a jewish Community enter or an old Home we fall Down miserably. There Are answers but this is not the place to propose them. This is an explanation to the Community As to Why news of the current Campaign a just about concluded a has been sparse in our columns this year. A we Hope to see you sunday at Beth Al where the twin observances a israelis 24th anniversary and russian jewry Solidarity Day a will be marked. Our Community does not have the Best record for turning out to affairs like this and it takes a special Effort to bring out a Good attendance. We done to know Why the two occasions Are being celebrated jointly a they done to exactly fit together although a Case could be made out in View of the fact that when russian jews leave Russia they go to Israel. We also think the program called for an outstanding speaker a not just entertainment. But that is not our problem. If you have any feeling for jewish causes you should come to Beth Al sunday. Certainly As Between Israel and her anniversary and the need for support of russian jewry this about catches every jew in the City. So Well be seeing you.
