Nichols delivery great Hopes for the betterment of the oratorical standing of Franklin were entertained by the student body and the approach of the contest was hailed with much spirit. This spirit was augmented by the efforts of or. Nichols to secure adequate preparation in ele cution and delivery. The students also entered into the support of their representative with a heartiness which was Good to see and when the evening of the contest arrived the largest delegation Ever sent by Franklin was present at Indianapolis to encourage the orator with songs and yells. But As ill Luck would have it or. Nichols delivery was seriously interfered with by a severe cold and this with an humiliating lapse of memory which he suffered during the presentation of his oration caused Franklin to be awarded last place though the excellence of the composition warranted a much better position. Or. Nichols deserves much credit for his work. While the results were not so satisfactory As were desired yet he should be made to feel the appreciation of each person interested in the betterment of oratory in Franklin College. Next year we will try it again with a renewed determination to win and with More time for preparation let us Hope that Franklin will be honoured with a leading position. Pm
