Sections f t s SawtGftftlf WOUNDS Sales Tax Compromise TAKES In Effort To Secure 9 Approval HARRISBURG AP Gov Lawrence today agreed to a compromise on his stall 3to5 Inch Fall Early Spring Snow Covers County Area Winter apparently not knowing were in the middle of April dumped a blanket of threetofive inches of snow in the Indiana County area over the weekend The late snow covered some sections of Western Penn sylvania with six inches of wet snow By noon today most of the snow had melted in the plan possibly by the end of Indiana County area as a bright sun shone most of the ed 3 Vz per cent sales tax pro posal in an effort to win final legislative approval of the ihe week The compromise would re ove proposals to extend the ax to auto tradeins and sales of alcoholic beverages over the bar As amended it would boost the tax from the present 3 per cent to 3Vfe per cent Rep Stephen McCann House democratic floor leader said the proposal removed from the bill would be included in separate leg Lslation for action at a later date In a statement following a one hour meeting with legislate lead ers ofboth Thrpugh this procedural change I am hopeful that we can have affirmative action on the amended House bill by both houses this Lawrence called the meeting in a lastditch effort to save his stale ated tax plan The bill would also be amended to instead of April 1 as written in the present bill At the same time he said he had assurances frpm Senate and House leaders of both parties that the measure could win speedy ap proval Sen M Harvey Taylor Dauphin said that the tax bill fouid be passed by the Senate is week if delivered to cCann declared He said it might be possible to act on this bill in the House v late tonight or Prior to their hourlong meeting With the governor
