Cran Plyler posted a 41 record tying for first place in negative Novice debate but due to speaker Points placed second Beth Paris won second place in dramatic interpretation Jane Gilliam and Julia Myers posted a 32 record in Novice affirmative debate at a Small tournament of area High schools held at High Point Andrews Beth Paris won second place Tammy Corne also placed seventh in the dramatic most students say float building is the most fun each year school organizations participate in a Competition building outdoor displays a club starts the whole project at a planning meeting floats must illustrate a Central Homecoming theme and relate to school spirit this years theme was Biso night at the movies members argue for hours deciding on an original idea and construction plan the final ideas Are As varied As the clubs themselves this years movie themes ranged from Camelot the to the dirty dozen pm two weeks before the Long awaited Day the real construction begins members make trips favorite club float in the last week work becomes intense sometimes frantic teachers begin to notice students sleeping in class parents have to serve dinner at the night before floats must be ready the Pace becomes hectic floats Are usually built in a club members Back Yard Many neighbors and parents have to put up with hammering and sawing through the entire night notice Hunters we have several used travel trailers and fold out campers just right for Huitsing fishing and family fun too come by and take a look at these this week finally around 4 am the floats near completion club members collapse into sleep ing bags Only to get up at to begin transporting the whole float to the school grounds floats Are now constructed As stationary displays so that platforms huge paper and wooden figures and last minute building materials All must be carried or dragged to the school eight members of each club remain outside All Day to set up and finish their float these people work Hec tidally to Complete the Dis play before final most of them find toughest problem is staying awake until the float is finished final judging of the floats begins at 2 pm club members stand in front of their floats holding their breaths and praying the float wont collapse until the judges pass by the club receiving the first place award in float Competition this year was key club the following clubs also placed in the contest interact second place Junior class third place French club fourth place Spanish club and Junior Jaycees fifth place and key ettes and senior class honorable men Tion cheerleaders decorated a j Simeon stadium for the occasion and the marching band presented a halftime show of movie themes the Homecoming court was presented at an Assembly Friday afternoon and the Homecoming Queen was announced at the game Friday night Susan Koonce was named Homecoming Queen the maids Honor were Shelia Dockery Sylvia Wilkinson and Liz Voorhees other seniors on the court were Linda Mclean
