Speaking at the fourth United Way report meeting held at the Central Myca i Hayes said High Point had ranked second Only to a California town in City employee giving but that this year s Campaign had almost certainly put High Point on top while other divisions of the Campaign Are still working towards their goals the City employees division has now raised 126 per cent of the amount it aimed for two departments were singled out by Campaign worker Don royals who said Public works employees had pledged 228 per cent of their goal and police dept pledges amounted to 195 per cent of that groups goal also surpassing predicted figures were employees of the High Point theatre and exhibition Center 161 per Cen the inspections dept 154 per cent and the City attorney s office 137 per cent and the housing authority 130 per cent As Well As six other City agencies thus far the total United Way Campaign has produced $436,686 in pledges or 66 per cent of the $670,000 goal set for this drive. Campaign chairman Murphy Osborne pointed out to workers assembled for the report meeting that while the total was below the 75 per cent he had called for a week ago it was still ahead of last years figures.
