Guilford county May open bids for new $3 million jail in july High Point Enterprise wednesday May 31, 1972 student inducted Honor society Greensboro Guilford county is hoping to open bids for its new jail sometime in july Robert Barnhart county architect said tuesday. Barnhart said the county is hoping that final working drawings now in the process of preparation can be completed so they can be reviewed by state officials around july i. He said the county could begin the process of advertising for bids for tile $3-million Structure once the jail has been approved by the social service dept in Raleigh. The new jail is expected to be erected on land the county now owns and on property it has condemned at the intersection of Sycamore and Eugene streets across from the new courthouse. A Tunnel will be placed under Eugene Street to connect the two buildings. The facility is designed to House 360 prisoners and the Guilford county sheriffs department which will move from its present crowded quarters in the courthouse.
