the Parks and recreation department who direct City playgrounds and recreation centers attended a training session in storytelling and Reading to children on Friday at the High Point Public Library the workshop covered the techniques of storytelling How to choose stories for children of various Ages storytelling demonstrations and films miss Elizabeth Gurley head of childrens services and mrs Jacquelyn Torrence and miss Carolyn lain members of the Library staff gave the demonstrations with visiting groups of children from Beddington Mission and Christ the King school for several years the Library has conducted a Story hour and Book program at playgrounds to interest children who do not usually use the Library in Reading and listening to stories Pamela Beth Edwards honoured at Shower interested children miss Carolyn lain a member of the High Point Public Library staff demonstrates How to Tell stories to a group of students and an instructor from Beddington Mission and Christ the King school the workshop was conducted for members of the Parks and recreation department Volunteer Day held at presbyterian Home stall photo by Art Rah Ordioni the annual Community Volunteer Day at the presbyterian Home was held on tuesday at the Home on Greensboro Road the 42 volunteers from the High Point and surrounding communities were invited to a program and luncheon the group was welcomed by mrs w h Faver coordinator of special services at the presbyterian Home she stated in a years time More than 8000 hours of ser vice has been Given to the presbyterian Home by per sons in this Community mrs w r Atkins was introduced As chairman of the red Cross volunteers the volunteers give two hours a week in the nursing unit where they read to patients write letters and help feed those unable to feed themselves in introducing mrs r a Short As chairman of the ser vice Circle from first presbyterian Church mrs Faver said these ladies come once a month to provide transportation for shopping they also Are available on a moments notice to provide a ride for a doctors appointment or a trip to a special event in the Community mrs Faver introduced other Community people with special talents who share these talents in Many ways music sewing parties decorations at special seasons of the year and Bible study these 42 dedicated volunteers Are All spirit lifters to the 230 per sons who live at the presbyterian Home she said mrs Pat Caffey a member of the Home and chairman of the Home coun cil expressed appreciation from the members of the presbyterian Home r a Short executive director spoke on behalf of the staff and trustees Many of the aspects of the life of the presbyterian Home would be impossible without the efforts of these volunteers he stated entertainment was provided by mrs Margaret Cle ment and her wooden danc ing Man they were accompanied by mrs Marguerite Moore at the piano mrs Cle ment and mrs Moore Are both members of the presbyterian Home rhythm band miss Pamela Beth Edwards of Greensboro Bride elect of Dennis Dale Farlow of Trinity was honoured at a floating mis Cellaneous Shower Given by mrs Freddy Herndon mrs Jack g Hughes and mrs James Davis Sisters of the bridegroom elect approximately 75 guests called at the Herndon Home from to pm Satur Day when she arrived the honoree was presented with a Corsage of yellow mums and Gypsophila she also received an electric mixer from her hostesses yellow and Green the colors the Bride elect will feature in her wedding were emphasized in the party decorations the refresh ment table was Edwards sister of the Bride elect from Greensboro and mrs Dennis j Farlow Mother of the bridegroom elect miss Edwards and or Farlow will be married on june 15 in a 2 pm ceremony in the College place
