Burrow City clerk City of Archdale 5/17 by Jim Hawkins Enterprise staff writer Greensboro the possibility that deep Wells in Central locations could Supply water to various areas of Rural Guilford county was suggested thursday to the Board of county commissioners. Commissioner Richard Maxwell who made the suggestion said the Cost of the deep Wells should be measured against that of extending water lines from the cities. He said a system using Wells could be placed at a Cost of about to per cent of what it would Cost to extend City water lines. Maxwell who said he believes the water table throughout Guilford county has dropped Only slightly urged a feasibility study of centralized deep Wells and package sewer treatment plants. Commissioner f. P. Bodenheimer said he believes the water table for Ordinary Wells May have dropped but lie added that use of commercial deep Wells could offer some Opportunity from an economic Point of View. Noting complaints about overflowing septic tank systems Maxwell urged the use or package treatment units instead of Extension of City sewer lines in order to relieve the problem. Maxwells comments came during a committee session at which commissioners discussed a proposal that the City of Greensboro collect county taxes and a request by youth care inc., for county funds to operate two Homes for abandoned abused and delinquent children. The tax collection Issue was brought up by Maxwell who noted the matter Quot has been going on for about a year he stressed the need for a decision soon. Maxwell said that to let the matter drag on Quot is not Good for the Public Quot adding that it has been used As a political football.
