Wrenn Enterprise staff writer Archdale mayor Henry York is not exactly a dog or cat fancier or so it would appear following his leadership tuesday night in getting Council members to pass the cites first dog tax mayor York describes a stray dog As any dog without a Collar and those Are the ones he is intending to wage War on or so he says he was almost too eager to Back up a suggestion that cats should also be licensed but he did not press the Issue when the Council approved the dog tax for females and 1 for male dogs dog owners will now have to list their dogs and pay a tax or the animals Are subject to become guests of the new county dog Pound located near Central Falls York did state that woe be unto any wandering canine which chances to trod across his turf indications were the Fate of the dog would not be Long in coming the Council nixed the suggestion by councilman Bruce Lance that a full time dog Warden be hired for the City Lance was making his suggestions after he had chaired a committee named by the mayor to look into dog complaints and see what could be done councilman Jake Darr appeared to be the one having the most doubts about the Wisdom of the City hiring a full time dog Catcher when other crime prevention week set by club the Exchange club of High Point will sponsor crime prevention week beginning feb 10 similar programs Are being coordinated by the National organization in cities across the country in a National Effort to reduce instances of crime or a e Sherron chairman of the local crime prevention week committee said the group will attempt to Alert citizens to the tragedy of crime hundreds of posters will be displayed throughout the City and Exchange club members will appear before numerous Community groups scholarships available to High school seniors employees Are needed much More darts suggestions swayed the other councilmen who agreed a City manager was needed now As Are people to work on City streets and an assistant to the present City clerk City attorney Don Miller noted the new City Law is not imposing a tax on the dog but rather on the right of the dog owner to have an animal inside the City limits almost daily now Archdale is moving closer and closer to getting its own water system the Council tuesday night voted to give its new York bonding attorneys the go ahead to set up a water Bond referendum possibly As Early As May 7 Miller said he did not believe the City can get the necessary Legal Steps out of the Way by May 7 and he also suggested a Date for holding the election be left up to the new York lawyers the Council the same night approved a motion authorizing York and councilman Bill Kinley chairman of the councils water committee to seek permission from the local government commission to Issue million in water Bonds actually the Cost of the water distribution system is not expected to hit the million Mark and Only enough Bonds will be sold to cover the actual Cost of the project City officials Are hoping to get a state clean water Grant which will Cut the costs to the City Down even More some 1570000 the great thing about the state Grant is it will not have to be paid Back while the Bonds will be retired Over a 40 year period actual Cost of the system which will deliver water to Archdale Homes from the Yadkin River via North David son water company lines is closer to million City officials Hope the Bonds if approved by voters will probably be paid for by water fees charged to customers and not require a hike in the present City tax rate however the City has agreed to hike the tax rate if the water fees do not pay enough to take care of the interest and retirement of the Bonds Randolph county com missioners have moved into their new first floor quarters in the courthouse in Asheboro but they have already found them too Small to handle Large delegations of county residents who appear periodically wednesday night about 50 residents who live near the fair Grove fire department turned out and the meeting had to be moved upstairs to the Small courtroom at their january session the commissioners found the room filled with a delegation seeking unc news
