The connection a which would come about through Extension of a major water main now ending near the Northern Edge of the Guilford technical Institute Campus a would supplement the present connection the town has with the High Point system. Town manager Charles Turner explained that plans now Call for Extension of the existing 16-Inch water main along . 29a to the Western in Jamestown driveway Entrance of the Campus. He said county officials have indicated they would favor extending the line As a 12-Inch main from the Campus Entrance to a Point across from the Entrance to a nearby apartment project. The town he said could extend the line another 150 Yards including a Tunnel under the Highway to a connection with an existing eight Inch line in the apartment project area. Councilmen gave their support to this approach but strongly urged that efforts be made in the future to provide a 12-Inch line along . 29a to connect with the City s 12-Inch main at Teague drive. Ragsdale estate said he Felt there a is plenty of Industrial zoning across the but Bow Stafford who sought the change in zoning said there is no my Industrial land for Sale in the town. The action taken by the town Council at their regular december meeting followed a recommendation by the planning and zoning commission that the land be rezoned. Stafford said a Brick Structure will be placed on the tract which is located on the Northern Side of the Southern Railroad not far from the depot and that it will be used by business that now operates in the Community. Councilmen discussed a fire insurance rate study detailing the Steps needed to change the insurance classification of the town from nb-8 to nb-7, but took no action after councilman Robert Green said that for the Community to secure a a real savings it would have to get a nb-4 rating. He said this would prove to be costly to the town and would reduce the fire insurance rate locally about to per cent. A change from the present nb-8 classification to an nb-7 classification would require a number of technical improvements As Well As hiring of full time personnel but would result in very Little change in residential fire insurance rates officials said. Mayor Thomas c. Ragsdale expressed Praise for the work of the Volunteer firemen who now serve the town for work on their last two Calls and expressed the thanks of the Community for their work. Councilmen agreed to limit each family in the Community to use of the meeting room in the town Hall building three times a year and agreed to keep fees at their present rate. Existing Jamestown civic clubs will be permitted to continue to use the facility. They also indicated that the facility is not for use for profit making purposes except by Jamestown organizations. He said today the Federal government is providing $280,000. A sum that will be matched by the town. Councilmen approved action to re advertise for bids for an irrigation system for the Golf course. Turner reported that the architect is expected to prepare plans for a Golf cart storage building and for an administration building. He said today the final phase of the program includes the irrigation system the storage Structure the administration building and seeding and final completion of the Golf course itself. Other developments at the Park site which is located on Bundy Road near High Point City Lake Are already under contract. These include an athletic Field Tennis courts. Picnic areas and space for a variety of activities. Several lakes Are being placed on the property.
