The first play of the evening a Given by professor Walter Fleischmanns dramatic proteges was a scene in a farm House Kitchen whose owner a country Farmer had been mysteriously murdered by a strangling with a rope during the night while he was sleeping. His wife had been arrested on suspicion and the county attorney. Jesse so Bison the sheriff. Lawrence Holt a neighbor Farmer. Charles Sharpe and two fibrin women neighbors Hilda Lanier and Geraldine rash opened the scene in the murdered Farmer s Kitchen. After trying unsuccessfully to discover clues and a motive for the crime through an amusing conversation Between the tobacco spitting neighbouring Farmer Charles Sharpe and the county attorney the two farm women were left by themselves in the Kitchen. The two clearly understood the character of the honest but indifferent quiet Cool mannered victim and his pretty industrious musical and lovable accused wife. Thus when they found the accused wife s strangled Canary they realized that the Farmer killed s in Wick sen in. I and Cut in return she in anger took her revenge upon him. The play ends with the murderer still undisclosed to the officers As the farm women remain silent in their discovery. Quot Why i am a Bachelor Quot a comedy of four scenes portraying the life of a couple before and after marriage kept the audience resounding in laughter. The plot of the play entered about a lecture featuring Morton Flower As the lecturer that convincingly demonstrated and expounded the foolishness of becoming married As shown by the acting of Frances Stalnaker and Charlotte Varner As Man and u Ife. The first scene showed the two As lovers blinded and foolish to their infamous love. Two years elapsed and the second scene Quot growled Quot with discontent and friction As the transformed lovers now married expressed their opinions of each other. Back in the Lover stage again in the third scene the two ardently expressed their affections and promises of unending love but the fourth scene was a debacle As the husband hurled the wife s Rock like biscuit upon the floor after cracking his Teeth on one of them and the wife concluded the play by Stormly throwing All of the dishes at her unfortunate companion. Attorney general to Rule on High Point civil service act revenues conic Lerable ahead of budget estimates expenses w Iliin allotment the City of High Point completed the first five months of the current fiscal year with a budget surplus of $22,245, it was discovered by the accounting division which today issued its compare Tiye statement of Revenue and expense. Expenses amounting to $835,-170.61 and revenues totalling $1,-118, 211 in the statement. A vast portion of the i budget surplus was obtained through an increase in revenues Over the budget estimate. The Council in its budget had estimated that the City would spend during that period $279 More than was actually expended but the difference favourable to the j City in the estimate and actual i collection of revenues was $21,-j 966. In the table of collections the i Only c classification that showed a decided deficiency was that of Street assessments the figures being $175,696 estimated and $137,385 Coleete. This deficiency j however was More than off set by surpluses in tax collections Aud other Revenue classifications. It had been estimated that taxes would provide $222,556 in Revenue for the five month period. But the City actually collected $263,927 from that source. The figures for prior years surplus available which includes prior year taxes and delinquent accounts receivable were $282,-855 estimated and $299,516 collected.
