Moore told county commissioners monday he had to have three cars immediately and could not wait for the time it would take to get new cars As directed by com missioners in their deliberations on the 1976-77 sheriff budget. The sheriff said he had to give up his own car to one of his men who demolished a patrol car last month. Commissioner Richard Pugh then spoke up and told other Board members he personally was tired of the controversy Over the sheriff s department and he thought the sheriff should be permitted to spend his budgeted funds As he wished As Long As he stayed within the budget. Pugh said if commissioners had Given the sheriff enough Money to buy All new cars he would have stuck to the action of the commissioners restriction on How the automotive funds should be spent. I favor new cars but i Don t believe we appropriated enough Money this year for asserted Pugh. Moore said the used patrol cars will most Between and and will be Low mileage. He said it would take four months to get 1977 Model cars. Commissioner w. D. Bowman agreed with Pugh and observed. He said it was costly to buy another Man s the Board then voted 3 to 2 to rescind its budget restriction and let the sheriff handle his own affairs. Langley and commissioner Logan White voted against the motion. Officials urge is ration democratic gubernatorial hopeful George Wood said to Day in Winston Salem that North Carolina needs elec Tion reforms to stimulate voter interest and make it easier for the average Man to vote. Another democratic candidate for governor de o Herron said in a Raleigh speech that the state s Community College system should be removed from the jurisdiction of the state Board of education and placed under a Board of its own. Wood who was to hold a Greensboro press conference this afternoon recommended returning the primary Date to May and holding All elections on saturdays. Kidnapping trial set next week Lexington the trial for local Motel operator Der Mont Conrad and one of his employees on charges of kid Naping for purposes of prostitution is scheduled for next week in Davidson county Superior court Here. Judge Forrest Ferrell will preside at the trial for Conrad and Cynthia Louise Anderson 28. The trial originally was scheduled for this week but judge Charles dates set for 1977 markets Winter and summer markets for 1977 will open Orr sunday and run through thursday according to dates announced by Robert Gruenberg general manager of the Southern furniture Market Center. Kivette prosecuted Conrad As solicitor in Superior court in 1968 on a charge of conspiracy to kill former Davidson county sheriff Fred sink. Sink s car was bombed in the driveway of his Home. A mistrial was declared after a Hung jury. Conrad was never tried again on the charge.
