Hereford Reporter (Newspaper) - January 24, 1902, Hereford, Texas Hereford reporter Friday january 24, 1902. Vernon citizens have subscribed $50,000 for an Oil Mill. With a population of nearly 1500 sanitary Laws Are a necessity and should be rigidly enforced. The Only Way that these Laws can be enforced is to incorporate. Think it Over. A that we should incorporate under Laws guaranteeing an economical municipality is admitted by every citizen who has the Best interests of the town at heart. We Hope to see an election ordered for that purpose in the near future and when that has been accomplished we Hope to see it carried without a dissenting vote. J the recent census of Hereford taken by the ministers in charge of pastorate Here discloses the fact that Hereford has a population of 1473. This was a Surprise even to the most enthusiastic residents. While we knew that the population was increasing very rapidly hardly anyone thought that it had passed the 1200 Mark. Herefords steady growth since the town was started a Little Over three years ago has been the subject of much comment by people who were conversant with the foundation of the town. In a recent conversation with a Railroad Man connected Wath the passenger department of the Pecos system he said that it was surprising to him to see so Many people buying tickets for Hereford who were paying their first visit to the Plains. The mystery to him was Why so Many people had Hereford for their objective Point. The reporter representative informed him that herefords Superior advantages As a place in which to rear a family was one of the reasons another her citizens All worked together for the Good of the town and while a a abroad and in writing to faraway friends never missed an Opportunity to say a Good word for the Banner town of the Plains. He remarked that the reporter was responsible for a Good Deal of the advertising which Hereford had received which is True but w e do not j wish to receive All the credit As the j Liberal patronage we have received j from our citizens and business men i has enabled us to get out a paper j which reflects credit on the Enterprise of our merchants. When a Man is looking for a location for himself and family he looks at the local paper and if it is Well patronized by the merchants he knows there is plenty of business in that town for when the newspaper is prosperous it is a pretty Good indication that everyone else is.
