Hereford Reporter (Newspaper) - December 20, 1901, Hereford, Texas Vol. I. No. 44 Hereford deaf Smith county Texas december to Itoi $1.50 per year q Christmas what a world of meaning that word has among the Little folks and to Many of the larger ones too. To the Little folks it Means an Over Supply ? of toys candies nuts fruits and other goodies. To the older ones it recalls their childhood Days when they were tucked in their Little Beds after having first Hung up their stockings and went to sleep with the wildest dreams of the Many Good things with which their lower wearing apparel would be filled upon Awakening. It also brings to mind the birth of our Saviour which occurred Over Nineteen centuries ago and in commemoration of which appropriate services Are held All Over the world. This is the time of the year when everyone who has anything sentimental in their nature vies with each other in the making of Happy hearts. That this will be a Happy Christmas to people living in this Section of the country is apparent from the Large sales of Christmas goods which our merchants have enjoyed. The reporter representative paid a visit to the different business houses yesterday and they All agree that this Christmas has been the most prosperous one in the history of the Plains country. Cash seems to be very plentiful Little credit business having been done and this Only by people who make a practice of paying their Bills monthly. Many of the merchants do not handle goods j which Are usually Christmas commodities but even these say thai their fall and Winter sales and collections have been the largest in their business history. Of course the unprecedented Prosperity of the Plains has been augmented by the prevailing Era of Good times which All paits of the United states Are now enjoying caused by the increased demands for our products on account of the Bri Tish Boer War and our own Little ? Campaign in the Philippines but the fact remains that the splendid advantages which the Plains country enjoys for Stock farming is the supreme reason for the Good times which prevails Here. That the Farmers of other sections of the country Are becoming acquainted with that fact is evidenced by the Large number of prospectors who have come Here and the subsequent land sales.
