Fine is Attar blame groundhog for dam failure vast volume of water suddenly released at Frank Thomas Lake the failure of the dam at the Frank s. Thomas Lake in Madison township whereby a vast volume of water was suddenly released to flow Down the Small Stream bed below the Spil Wuy is attributed to the presence in the old big four roadbed which was utilized As a dam. Of innumerable ground hog Burrows which have been there from a Timp Long before the abandonment of the roadbed for Railroad use. The roadbed is constructed largely of gravel other rather Loose material and when the water began to seep through the perforations in the roadbed made by the groundhogs it was an easy task for it to enlarge the openings so greatly that the embankment finally collapsed under the High pressure of the head of water. The water was 40 feet deep at the spillway and the entire area of the Lake including both West and East divisions which were connected was said to approximate 40 acres. It had been filled almost to the top of the spillway by the recent Rains. When the dam gave Way under the pressure of the water a great tidal wave rushed Down tile Small Stream Channel which runs under the new big four tracks through a High Culvert which also is used for Highway purposes. The Highway at that Point was washed out. And the water rushed on Down the Channel into Snake Creek which flows through the Happy hollow neighbourhood past Fern Cliffs and into big Walnut. On its Way to the larger Stream the water spread out Over adjoining farm lands in the Snake Creek Bottom. And caused much damage.
