The trash should not be piled in the Street. One problem facing residents and a problem for which the City has no answer is the Dispo Sal of junk cars. A conserva Tive estimate by the City Indi Cates there May be As Many As 300 junkers scattered through out great Bend. The owners too have been faced with a serious problem because the City does not allow the dumping of old cars at the City Landfill and the local Salvage Yards Don t want them either. The Landfill will Laul a maximum of two one City official stated. It we allow old cars to be dumped there it won t last half that Long. By the same Token the Salvage Yards have no use for tire cars. They take up too much room and they have no value. One local Savage Yard recently sold 100 Ink cars at 50 cents each Selling for 30 one operator commented you lose Money even if they bring the car to you two Salvage Yards have offered a partial solution to the junk car problem. For the next my Vii Days Clem Barton owner of b and b Auto Salvage on South Highway 281 and Russ Hannigan and Karl Mai owners of town and coun try Auto Salvage on North High Way 281, will Tow away junkers free of charge. The Yard operators have placed two conditions on the removal of cars. First the car must have at least two wheels on it so it can be according to bar ton. If it has wheels one Man can Tow it away. Nobody can afford to Send two men for a 50 cent he added. Second according to Hannu Gan and Mai the cars will be towed away Only at the owners request. We re not going to Tow a car they said. Unless the owner Calls us and then is present when we remove All three men wanted it Plain in understood they Are not buy the cars.
