Grapevine Sun (Newspaper) - December 9, 1999, Grapevine, Texas 4a/the Grapevine Sun thursday dec. 9, 1999 a natural incentive students pitch in at Center by Adam Pyles contributing writer environmental systems students from Colleyville heritage High school have finally received a break from the Rigours of the classroom. For the past couple of weeks they have been hard at work Clearing land in their quest for an ecology Center. About 80 students under the direction of teachers Dayna Bryant and Robin Fawcett Are working to provide an educational outdoor learning environment for Grapevine Colleyville is visitors on the i acre site. A each of the four classes involved in this project Are responsible for one Section of the Center to develop paths and Bridges for future visitors a Bryant said. The site located behind Cross timbers Middle school in Grapevine needs a lot of work. Due to a Complete Lack of funding those involved Hope to have Many of the materials they need to Complete the work donated by local businesses. A fund Raiser to support the Center is also in the works. Students Are planning on building a compost pile and raising Worms to sell. Meanwhile the project will be put to Good use As it develops. A a we be already planned to have elementary school visitors tour the Center next semester a Bryant said. A we Are going to teach them about native vegetation insects Birds survival skills and other fun ecological the students have jumped into the spirit of helping the environment. A i think that at first everybody was just excited that we had the Chance to go outside a said senior Rob Doyle. A when we got there we All started to realize that there would actually be some work involved. Currently they Are seeking lumber gloved nails and other Basic building materials.
