Since one tree absorbs about 13 pounds of Carbon dioxide enough to offset the Carbon dioxide produced by driving one car Miles it seems rather apparent that we should be planting Trees. This is especially important in our paved cities and towns where expanses of Concrete create heat Trees that Shade such areas Are 15 times More important in reducing Carbon dioxide buildup than Rural Trees. Researchers propose three ways to reduce Carbon dioxide and other air pollutants 1 improving Auto emissions 2 reforming Energy sources and 3 increasing the num Ber of Trees in City areas. If implemented improving Auto emissions would Cost per Pound of c02. Trees would Cost Only per Pound of co2. More than 130 communities in Pennsylvania have appointed Shade tree commissions to oversee the planting care and maintenance of Trees along Public right of ways and other municipally owned property such As Parks and Green belts. In conjunction with this appointment a Shade tree Ordi Nance is adopted to provide the municipality with regulations concerning the work of the commission and the stewardship of Public Shade Trees. Perhaps no single item distinguishes a municipality More than its areas of natural Beauty and no doubt our test reaction to Village town or City is the abundance Vari Ety and health of its Shade Trees. A Good Shade tree is one that is Orna mental and at the same time does not interfere with overhead wires and vehicular or pedestrian traffic and does not present a Public safety problem As it matures.
