The King of Portugal continues in fuch a bad State cf Health, that he does not give any Audiences. We hear that Gerard Van Neck, Efq; and John Edwards, Efq; Dirc(5tor of the South Sea Company, arc to be advanced t) the l^gnity of Baronets of Great Britain. It is reckon'd that the Number of Letters Yefterday, by the In-land Pofts, was greater than ever yet known.-The Letters brought by the Fleet from the Leeward Jflands are faid CO be iSoco. Yefterday there was a Report in Town, that the Pretender hasaftualiy been proclaim'd at Perth. A Veffel from Leverpool, laden with Rock-Salr, was taken on Sunday Evening near Beachy-Head, by a French Privateer Cutttr. Captain Jultinian Nutt, of his Majefty's Sloop the Ta-viltock, is appointed Commander of the Grand Turk, la.c'y taken from the French, and purchafed for his Ma-jelty's Service.-This Gentleman was one of Admiral Anfon'o Lieutenants, and recommended by him, for his gallant Behaviour. Colonel Ryan, who behaved extroardinary well, at the Attack of Porto Bello and Carthagena, is appointed Colonel of a Regiment that is'te be fent to Cape Breton. And Thomas De Veil, Efq; youngeft Son of Sir Thomas De Veil, is appointed a Lieutenant in the faid Regiment. A few Days fince the Rev. Mr. Warburton, Author of the Divine Legation of Mofes, &c. was married to Mifs Tucker, a fine young Lady, Niece to Mr. Allen of Bath. Yelterday was married Mr. Wright Under Sheriff of the County of Cheller, to Mifs Polly Sellon, only Daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Sellon, formerly one of the Prebends of Peterborough, a beautiful young Lady, with a confiderable Fortune, A few Days fince d ed at Lilly near Hitchin in Hert-fordfhire, George Draper, Efq; an eminent Conveyancer and Court Keeper in that County, and Brother to the Lady Barrington of Hitchin aforefaid, Lalt Friday died at Ctiefter, Mr. Scott, an eminent Attorney, and many YearsClerk of the Peace for that County, who acquired a large Fortune with an upright CharaiSler, which he has left to his only Daughter. Yetterday Morning died of the Stone, at his Lodgings at Peckham, Mr. Gleave, formerly an eminent Mai titer, who when in Bufinefs, was eftecm'd one of the moft confidera-ble in the Kingdom. Yefterday the SciDons begaB at the Old Baiiey, when 21 Prilbners were tiied, one 6T whom was Capitally con-vified, vix. Catherine Evans, for ftiealing 25 1. &c. the Property of Mrs. Mary Pound, in the Dwelling-hoafe of Mr. William Walker. Fifteen were caft for Tr'anfportation, and five Acquitted. SCOTLAND. Edinburgh, Sept. 5, General Cope with the Army under his Command, arrived fafc at Invernefs on Thurlday the 29th pail, where he encamped on a Hill adjoining to the Town ; it feems the Enemy were too numerous, and fo advantagioufly polled, that it was not pradticable to attack them wiih any View of Succefs, and therefore the General made a Femt, as if he intended to march up the Hill of Coryyercch, and ordered fome Companies to advance on the Road that leads to the Mountain, but he turned Ihort with the main Body, and took the low Rpad, which effectually deceived the Rebels, who bylaft Account had got no further than the Blair bf Athole, and were fuppofed to be about 3C00 Men, where they are to wait for others whom they expeft to join them. ' On Sunday the Invernefs Pcft was ftopt by them, about Twelve o'Clock at Noon ; he fays, a Gentleman carried him up to the young Chevalier, who was dreffed in a plain whi;e Loar, with a green Ribbon, and the St. Andrew and Star on his Breall. He aflicd him feveral Queftions relating to his Bufinefs, and told him the Letters wnich he carriea behoved to be inffedled ; that the late Marquis of Tilli-barden, and his Secretary were along vviih him ; thatafttrr he wa.'v carried upStiirs, one fearched the Mail, and carried it to the young Ciievalxr's Apartment. In the mean time, a Clergyman, whom hedefcribes to have had awh.ts Coi-kade ill lli^ H".t, examined him a- to any Letters which were concealed, ^nd told him, he would hurt hiinlelf if he made not a full L'lkovcry ; that fome HighlarKcrs off^-red to Itrip him, but on his offering to unluoie his Coat, the Clergyman llopt them, but obiigt.d him to put off hi^ Shoes, in cafe any Letters were concealed in them. He was dirmifl'.'d at one o'Llock on Monday Morning, but with fvarce one half of the Letters contained in the Mail, and which he fa}s, they promifed to forward to Edinburgh. Cluny M'Pherfon, Cliief of the Name, was furprifed by a Body cf Camerons in his own Houfe and made Pri-foner : ft is faid, his Dfage from the young Chevalier, has been attended with Abundance of Rigour. It is fure that their advanced Party of 400 Men have taken PolTeffion of Perth as on 1 hurleay lalt. Among other Precautions taken to prevent a Vifit from the Enemy in this Place, all the Ships and Boats are ordered from the North Coafts, from Crail quite up to Stirling. Certain Advice is arrived, that 6o3o Swifs in the Dutch Service are embarked for Scutl .nd, on board of 80 Tran-fports and a proper Convoy of Men of War. Wednefday General Hamilton's Dragoons moved from the Camp in St. Anne's Yards to Bearfoot Parks, under the Cannon of the Cattle. That Morning the Great Guns fired from the Caftle, on Account of the .-.greeable News cf his Majefty's happy Arrival in his Regal Dominions. Three Re^unenti of F'oot are expei^ed this Week from England. Not only the Train'd Bands of this City do Duty every Night regularly, hut likewife ihe Inhabitants of Leith, to wliom Anns have been furniflied from the City Magazine. By a Letter from Perthfliire, da'.ed Sept, 3, it is confirmed, that the Lord Nairn, with 400 Men had taken PoffefTionof Perth, and that the main Body of the Highlanders, amounting to 5000 Men, wcreab.utto march to crols the Forth abvve Stirling, and theO^cafion of their Stay at Blair of Athole was to raife their other Friends j the Marquis of Tillibardin had ordered every Plough to fur-nilh two Men for that Service, and was to follow ; that the D. of P. har let up his Standard at the Head of Loch^ Earn, where there is already a confiderable Gathering. It is faid, that feveral other Gentlemen fet out to join them on Sunday laft. Great Preparations are making at Drummond-Caflle to receive the young Chevalier. This Morning 24 Gunners and Matroffes belonging to the Artillery-Train at Woolwich, arrived here to lervc in the Caftle. Leilb, September 5. This Morning arrived the Britannia, Ducan Pollock ; the Hope of Leith, William Smith ; the Glafgow-Pacqoet, Richard German ; the Edinburgh and Glafgow-Pdcquet, Robert Hamilton; the Providence of Leith, James Cvwan ; all from London for this Place, with Merchandize, and 6000 Stand of Arms. IRELAND. Dublin, Sept. 3. We hear from Ballymagerry in the County of Antrim, that as Mr. Caleb Gould, a Merchant of this City, was riding out with Lord Antrim, he fell fiom his Horfe, and died that Night; he has been fince inteir'd in the Burial Place of Lord Antrim's Family. Laft Sunday his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant and his Lady din'd with the Lord Primate j and Yefterday they dined with the Lord Chancellor.
