Ydlerday was held a Court of Common-Council at Guildnali, when the Right Hon. the Lord-Mayor acquainted the Court with a Letter he had received from the Duke of Nevvcail'e, fignifying, That an Invafion w; s made in Sco.land, in Favour of a Popifh Pretender, with ether Particulars ; on which a Motion was made by Mr. James Hodges,- ' That an humble Addrefs be prefented * to bis Majeity, to congratulate him on his fafe Return to ' his Britifh Dominions; on the Succefs of his Majeiiy's ' Amis in Nort'i-America ; in the Conqueit of the llland * and Forts of Cape Breton ; and to exprefs our Confidence * in h's Majeity'a Royal Goodnefs, that he will fecure to * this Nation, the perpetual Enjoyment of that invaluable ' Acquisition ; to declare our Abhorrence of the prefent At-' tempt in Scotland, againlt his Majeiiy's Crown and Dig- * nicy ; and to allure his Majeity, that we will to the utmolt * of our Power, fupport and allilt his Majeity ag^init all ' his Enemies '-Which Motion was unanimously agreed to : It was then moved, that a Committee of four Aldermen and eight Commoners, be appointed to withdraw and prepare an Addrefs. The following Perfons were agreeable thereto Elected, viz.. Gafcoigne. Vv'ho retum'd with an Addrefs which was approv'd of Ne-fiiim Contradicente, and the Sheriffs were forthwith to wait on his Majeity, to know when he \vou!d pleafe to be attended with tne iaid Addrefs. On Monday next at. Ten o'Clock, the Court of Lieu-teiu-ncy meet at Guildhall, in order to wait on his Ma--t-ity w;ih their Addreis. Extras! of a Letter from Edinbwgb, Aug, 31. * This C;ty has been in a very great Hurry this After-' noon, about the Report of the Pretender's Son being at ' Perm ; if it be true, he is tco near us; I never was ' appiehenfive till now.-I hear tnere is to be a Camp in ta: King's Park here, but cannot aver it for Truth. We ' do not iiear that General Cope and the Highlanders have ' yet engaged. 1 have net heard one Word from our * Friends at Fort Wiiliam for three Weeks paft.' On Thurfday Evening an Exprefs arrived at the Marquis of Tweedale's Office, from Edinburgh, which 'tis faid brought an Account, that a Dutch Regiment had landed at Leith, from Holland. Yeiterday it was reported that the Fox Man of War had taken a Ship from Breit, that had on board Arms and Cloathing for 3000 Men, defign'd for Scotland ; but as no Particulars were mention'd, it gain'd very little Credit. Yefterday was fhipp'd from the Tower feveral Pieces of Cannon with their Carriages for Scotland, with upwards of icq Piarrels of Powder. Admiral Martin, who has now hoifted his Flagon board the Yarmouth, was at Plymouth on Tuefday Morning ; but was expected to fail immediately. Yeiterday the Lords of the Admiralty appointed Captain Rofe to be Cipiain of the Winchefter Man of War. Thurfday latt at a Court of Admiralty held at Doftors Commons, the St. Jofepi and Mary, taken by the Kinfale M.3n of War; and the Elephant, taken by the Rofc Man of War, were condemn'd as legal Captures. His Majeity'a Ship the Deal-CafUe, with about 40 Sail of Merchantmen under her Convoy, from the Leeward IfLnd-, was left about 30 Leagues to ths Weftward of the Lizard.-The Lynn Man of War, was feparated from them on the 13 th of Augult. ExtraB of a Letter from Mr. Bonnamy, Merchant in Guernfey, Sept. 3. * On Sunday the 25th Inft. four Leagues, E.N.E. of ' Arm, happened an Engagement between three Englifli ' Privateers, and two French Men of War, fuppos'd to be ' the Fine and Emerande ; whereafter an Hour and Half's Difpute, they parted.-And Yefterday put in here by ' contrary Wind?, the Charming Molly, Captain Mou-' rant for St. Maloes, who fays, that on the 26th Inftant, ' at Three in the Morning, three Leagues to the Eaftward ' of this Ifland, he met the faid Men of War, who hail'd ' him ; to which he anfwered, that he was a Tranfporc ' bound to St. Maloes with French Prifoners ; then one of ' the Ships came clofe up, and pour'd in a Broad-fide, and ' the other did the fame ; and then order'd the faid Mou-' rant on board, where he fhewed them his PafTport; ' whereupon they ordered him to go about his Bufinefs.- ' Capt. Turc, (late Commander of the Grand Turc Priva-4 teer) and another French Captain, on board the Tranf-' port, were knifed on the Spot; and the Captain of the ' Penthievre had threeFingers of his Left-hand mot off, and ' four other Prifoners dangeroufly wounded by the two ' Broad-fides.-In this Condition the Prifoners oblig'd 4 Capt.Mourant to make the nigheit Port, which was Cher-4 burgh, where they wived the fame Day, and found the 4 two French Men of War there.*-Capt. Mourant was 4 there informed, that the Emerand had 24 killed and ' wounded ; but the Lofs of the Fine was kept very fecret. 4 -The (aid Men of War were Yelterdav leen near this 4 Ifland.' The John and William, Mcrris, from Dublin ; and the St. Andrew, Maccanally, from Cork, are both taken by the French, and carried into Martiuico. Lalt Monday a Gentleman in GojdmanYfields hired a Horie of Mr. Paul, an Excife Officer, to go to Culchefter, promifing to return him the next Day by his Servant ; but the Fellow in corning to Town with the Hcrfe, was de-fir'd by a Perfon on the Road, who appear'd like a Gentleman, to let him ride the Led-Horfe, telling him he would be grateful tohim when he came to Town, which the Servant accordingly complied with ; but the pretended Gentleman watcti'd an Opportunity, juit at the Entrance of the Town, to ride away with the Horie, which has not been heard of fince.
