Count de Carafta who commands here, isreturnedfrom Milan, where he has been to acquaint the Infant with the State of Affairs; and we are af-fcired, that in the Council of War,held thereupon, in the Infant's Prefence, it was refolved to order immediately five Battalions of Infantry and two Regiments of Cavalry, of thebeft Troops, to march in order to reinforce this Gar-rifonjund thofe of Gualtiero, Berfello and Reggio. There Will be alfo at Parma a Corps deReferve, ready to march whither dccafion may require. Modiha, Feb. 28. We are affured, that the 5000 Spaniards, who are marching for Parma, have Orders to repair to GuaftaUa, and that the Auftrians have a little contracted their Quarters. Some even pretend, that they have repafs'd the Secchia, and drawn off their Magazines from Queftello and St. Benedetto: But thefe Accounts h'ave the more Need'of Confirmation, as we know from other Quarters, notwithftanding what is afFefledly fpread to the contrary, that the Imperialifts receiye daily frefh Reinforcements, and will fobn- be in a Cdndition to begin their Operations. Hamburgh, March 11. The Hanoverian Troops that are returned from the Empire, have Orders to raife the ne-ceffary Recruits with all Expedition; arid that the Officers are forbid to difpofe of their Equipages, but muft keep them ready to march on the firft Notice. Hague, March' 17. We hear that the Troops of the Republic, which augment daily, extend from Mechlin to Arfchot, which latter Place is going to j?e fortify'd. The Number of Soldiers made Prifoners at Bruffels, ,di-minifhes more and more, by their efcaping in Bodies, ef-pecially the Swifs, enough of whom are already arrived to form two or three. Battalions. The;Reafan of this Defer-tjon is the Violation of Prpmife made by the French, who were not to, conduct them further than the neighbouring Cities of Flanders, whereas, according to th* prefent Regulation, they are to be' led into the Heart of France. There is a Report, that the French have ftopt the Equipages of M..Kinfchot between^uflels and Antwerp. The laft Letters from Jytaly haW entirely undeceived us with regard to the Report of an Accommodation between France, Spam and the Court of Turin, and we leam, on the contrary, that this Court labours inceffantly to concert Meafures, with that of Vienna, and makes every where fuch Preparations as promife a vigorous Campaign. Mantua, Feir. 18. The Motion* of our Troops on the other Side the Pb have at laft made the Spaniards abandon the Cities of Reggio/aod Gualtalla,.tho^ tiiey had fortify'd the latter. 1745, 76 a 5 3 4ths.
