Arrived Elizabeth and Mary, Chevalier, from Jerfey. Sailed the Expedition, Movant; and Montague, Benveneu, for Guernzey. Ccwet, Feb. 2. Sailed the Dolphin, HofLck, to Spit-head, from Jamaica, for London. Came in Jonge Helena, from Zurickzee, for Bayonne. The Content, Sharp, fratn Barbidoes, is arrived at Barbidoes. Naples, Jan. \ z. The groundlefs Apprehenfion we were under, that the Inqaifuion was on Point of being introduced amongft us, was occafion'd by a Procefs which the Tribunal had carried en agairift a Prieft of this Capital. The Royal Chamber having examined the Records, declared, that it was formed in the Manner of the Inquifi-tion ; and having.reported this to the King, his Majefty thereupon required to have the two Canons, who had the greateft Hand in the Affair, delivered up ; and fignified, at the fame Time, to the Archbifkop, that he muft, for the future, abftain from fuch Proceedings. His Eminence received thefe Orders with fome Surprize, and, it is faid, refolves to retire to Rome. The Nobles, deputed for the Confervation- of the Liberties of the People, have made the King a Free Gift of 500,000 Crowns, to teftify how fcnfible they are of his Majefty's Atteation to their Privileges on this Occafion. Pofen, Jan. 20. The Ecclefiafticks of the Grecian Rite, united and difunited, dwelling in the Palatinates of Ruffia, Podolia and Riovia, having quarrell'd amongft themfelves, the Seculars of the two Rites efpoufed their Caufes, and began to mutiny againft one another. The Difunited Greeks, being the weakeft, were in feveral Places ill treated by the United, as were likewife their Churches. The Emprefs of Ruffia having made Complaints thereupon to the King of Poland, and infilled upon {Satisfaction the Violence (hewn againft the People whoprofefs the Greek Religion, his Polifti Majefty has appointed CommifTaries, who are to repair to the Places where the Exceffes were committed, to enquire into the Matter and punifh the Guilty. In Virtue of the King's Order, thofe Commiilkries have caufed, in the principal Churches of Warfaw, his Majefty's Mandate to be publifhed from the Pulpits, and the Places and Days to be declared where and when the Royal Commiftion is to be executed, that the Parties concerned may be ready to make their Appearance. Hanover, Jan. 27. The Day before Yefterday in the Evening, fivePofts arrived at once from London, bringing Orders for aj! the Regiments of Foot, that are ftillin this Country, except oitfy thofe of Brunck and Kilmanfegg, to be ready to move by the ift of March. Cologne, Feb. 2. Seven hundred Im'perial Recruits arrived this Day atDentz, and in the Neighbourhood of the Rhine. Four tboufand and feven hundred more are actually upon the March on the fame Account, which is, to repair to the Low-Countries. There is this Day at Duf-feldorp t Grand Promotion of Knights of the Order of St. Hubert. LONDON. One of the Regiments marching to reinforce M. Belle-iile in Provence, having loft its Baggage upon the Rhone, the Marihal was fore'd to replace it, before he fet out to march towards Count Brown, by one of the Battalions in Garrifon in the Maritime Places. They write from Vienna, that a frefh Provocation has been given to the Emprefs by the Genoefe, in their Behaviour covrards the Agent Mariconi, whofe Life the Mob t ought, and befieged the Houfe where he was concealed, and after he was got off ftripped his Houfe at Genoa of every Thing valuable. The Government difavows this^ Aftion ; but the Court of Vienna is fo far from being fa-tisfied, that tho' ftrong Inftancesgjre made by all Canals for a new Capitulation, in which the Revolters defire only to have their Lives and Liberties fecured, it is refolved, that their Submiffion fhall be only upon their furrendring at Difcretion. Letter from Port/mouth, Feb. 3. . ' I flop the Poft to tell you, that this Moment the Sun-' derland Man of War, Capt. Cornwall, (oneofCommo-' dore Legg's Squadron) is returned to Spithead, and has ' brought in amoftrich Prize ; they fay flie has 60 Tons 4 of Treafure on board.-I hope this News will hold ' good.' Letter from Dover, Feb. 3. ' Arrived the Sarah, Felber ; and the Sophia Amelia, ' Smicht, from Liibon, for London. Sailed the York Pri-  vateer on a Cruize. On Sunday the Carlifle Privateer, ' Capt. Owen, forced a Smuggling-Cutter on Shoar near  Hythe ; upon which the Cullom-houfe Officers, afliftcd  by a Party of Dragoons, feized the Cargoe, being up-' wards of four Tons of Tea,#nd 200 Half Anchors of ' Brandy. He alfo chaced another Smuggling Cutter, ' laden with Tea and Brandy, which the Smugglers threw ' over-board in the Chace, Part of which has been taken ' up along Shore. Juft now a Ship is arrived, faid to be ' from Carolina. A French Brigantine, with 100 Hogfheads of Rum, and a Spanifh Ship from the Canariei for the Havannah ; both taken tJy the Men of War, on the Leeward IQands Station, in their Cruize upon the Spaniflj Main, and conduced to Curacca by Capt. Broderick. The two Prizes are valued at 10,000 1.-A poor Recompence for the Englifh Ships taken, whilft they were off the Leeward IflandStation. Yefterday there wsfs Advice, that the Prince Frederick Packet-Boat, Capt. Willifton, was loft coming eut of Li/bon ; but that the Crew and Leters on board were faved. TheN.S. del Baeoo alias el Rofario y Santo Domingo, Capt. Don Jofeph de Villa Nuevs, for Buenos Ayres, who failed from Cadiz the azd of December, was taken the 27th following by the King George, Prince Frederick, Duke, Prince Edward, and Princefs Amelia Privateers, and carried into Liibon. It is faid the London Privateer has ^lfo taken another Ship from Cadiz, and carried her to Gibraltar. The King Temina, French, from Newfoundland, is taken on the Coaft of Portugal, and carried into Spain. This Day his Majefty will go to the Houfe of Peers with the ufual State, in Order to give the Royal Affent to the Bill far Repealing the feveral Rates and Duties upon Houfes, Windows and Lights, and for granting to his Majefty other Rates and Duties upon Houfes, Windows, or Lights, and for raifmg the Sum of Four Million Four Hundred Thoufand Pounds by Annuities, to be charg'd on the faid Rates or Duties. We hear that Orders will fpeedily be iffu'd out, that all the Rebel Prifoners that are under Sentence of Death, in the feveral Goals in this Kingdom will be repriev'd, in order to be Tranfported to his Majefty's Plantations Abroad. On Taefday Night the Daughter of Col. Herbert, Brother to the Earl of Pembroke, was baptiz'd at his Houfe in Palace-Yard, Weftminfter, by the Rev. Dr. Kendell, and named Georgina; his Majefty was Godfather, (by the Earl of Pembroke) and the Countefs of Pembroke and Lady Margaret Herbert Godmothers. Yefterday the Judges met in the King's Bench Chamber, Weftminfter, and chofe their refpective Circuits for' the Winter Affizes, as follow; Northern Circuit. Laft Night the RightJHon. the Earl Firswalter arriyed in, Town from Bath, being perfectly recovered by the Ufe of the Waters there. On Monday Night one Mrs. Andrews, whofe Hufband is at Sea, hang'd herfelf in her Garters, at her Lodging in Rofemary-lane. Yefterday Jane Wilkins, ali.s Philpott, alias Johnfon, was committed to New-Pnlbn, by Thomas Burdus, Efqi for felonioufly taking a great Quantity of Linnen Handkerchiefs, the Property of Mr. Thomas Reynolds, part of which were found upon ber. The fame Day Catherine Price* was committed to the fame Place by the fame Genrleman, for felonioufly taking out of the Dwelling Houfe of Mrs. Catherine Boyvyer, in Gough-Square, in Fleet-ftreet, a great Quantity of Plate and other Things her Property, part of which wereJcrad upon her. On Monday, Feb. 23, will be publifh'd, the Second Edition, in Odlavo, of the Firft and Second Volumes oF The Univerfal Hifiory, from theEarlieft Account of Time. -Gentlemen who have not already fent in their Name;, are defired to do it as foon as poffible, that the Number to be printed of the fubfequent Volumes may be afcertain'd. Propofals may be had Gratis of T. Ofborne, in GrayV Inn ; A. Millar, in the Strand ; and J, Ofborn, in Pater-nofter-Row. To be Sold, at the Catherine-Wheel, at-Loadon-Waif, a Frefh Sound Bay Gelding, n'gh 15 Hands high, five Years old, he is a good bred Horfe, and does his Bufinefs well; the Owner lives a few Miles in the Country, and ufually keeps his Horfes at Grafs, but this Horfe Leaps well and would not be confin'd, was obliged to be kept in the Houfe, fo is fit for Sale fboner then intended, he has a good Conftitution and is very hke to make a good Sparting Horfe, and fit for an Officer. ; Nrwcaftle, Jan. 13. Laft Thurfday Se'nnight died, at his Houfe at Caufey in the County of Durham, Ralph Clavering, Efq: a Gentleman of a large Eftate, and good Character, and remarkably Charity to the Poor. On the 24th Inftant, at Ten in the Morning, a Fire broke out in Fe!ton Hall, which burnt with great Violence, and in four Hours confumed the Body of the Houfe ; but the Wind being moderate, the two Wings and all the valuable Effects were faved. It is certain this Fire was occa-fioned by the Workmen s refting the Timber Ends in the Chimney which fupported the Koof, where the Fire broke out. Price of Corn at Ckucefler. By a private Letter from London we learn, that his Grace the Duke of Hamilton was to fet out the 18th Inftant for Ponfmouth, to embark for Lif-bon. * They write from Newcallle, that i6Tranfports now at Shields, are Yoon to fail for Scotlandr fo carry over Forces to Flanders.-That, the Providence of Whitby, George Poftgate, Mafter, laden from -that Port to London with Bottles, &c. the 4th Inftant, fprung a Leak, and funk next Morning in fix Fathom Water off Black-ney on the Norfolk Coaft, but that the Crew faved themfelves in their Boat.--That the Merchants of Yarmouth and Leoftoff have lately prefented Captain Scott, Commander of his Majefty's Sloop the Badger, with a large Silver Punch Bowl, which coft 35 1. and Captain Grant Commander of another Sloop of War, with a large Silver Cup and Cover, for their Care and Vigilance in protecting the Herring Fifhery from the Interruption of the Enemy. The prodigious Fall of Snow, which began on Monday Night, and ftill continues, without much Abatement, detained the London Poft fo long op the Road, that he did not arrive before Five o'Clock Yefternight. Edinburgh, Jan. 29. Yefterday died here Archibald Primrofe, Efq; only Son to the late Sir Archibald Prim-rofe, of Dunnipace, Bart. This Day the Rev. Mr. Neil M'Vicar, Minifter atWeft-kirk was ftruck with a Palfey, as he was going to Church. They write from Sorbie in Gallowiy, that one Anthony Stewart, died there fome Days ago, aged 93 ; he had of Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchilden, no lefs than Two hundred and twelve.
