With the newly hired full time town planner Theresa Merten looking on planning consultant Judith Rabb outlined recommendations to the commission that if adopted will govern the growth of mount airy during the next decade. Rabb told the commission that the town should continue to grow at a moderate rate from its current size about people toward an eventual population size of to she said town residents have indicated a desire to maintain mount airy s Small town character and suggested that town officials consider Bank to underwrite Bond to Purchase land by Louis Lyons news Post staff mount airy the town Council accepted a bid by the Farmers and mechanics Bank of Frederick monday night to fund a Bond to help Purchase 81 acres just West of Here. The Bank pledged to underwrite the 20-year water Bond with an initial annual interest rate of 7.35 percent. The interest rate will increase gradually Over the life of the Bond to be repaid in 20 instalments of each to 8.70 percent in the final year. The rates Are fixed and guaranteed according to Council president Delaine Hobbs. The Council decided in november to float a Bond that will enable the town to buy the parcel on its Western Boundary from Developer James Frey. Mount airy agreed to a Purchase Price of million for the prop erty which includes a water Well capable of producing Gallons per Day town planning reports indicate. Or. Nicol news Post staff Middletown after More than two years of heated discussion town officials voted monday to repair a Section of streets and curbs and gutters in the Woodmere South subdivision and split the costs with residents. The vote was 4-2 with commissioners David Lake and Donald Thompson opposing the measure. They said a full engineering study should be completed before the town proceeds. However commissioner Harry Roop a member of the streets committee who made the motion to help fund the work said a study would be a waste of time and Money. We can t afford to go another year without a the curb and gutters and streets in the subdivision Are collapsing. The town agreed to for the Complete Cost of the repair to the Road and driveway aprons while they will 20 percent for the curb and Gutter. Individual homeowners will 80 percent of that Cost which will be determined by pro rating the linear foot frontage of each affected property relative to the linear feet of the entire project according the proposal adopted. Another controversial part of the proposal is an agreement that the town will warrant the work for 20 years.
