Florence Morning News (Newspaper) - September 17, 1970, Florence, South CarolinaPresbyterians discuss plan for reunion Richmond a. Members of a joint group formed to seek reunion of the Southern and Northern Presby Terian denominations met Here tuesday to listen to interested parties from both denominations. The conference was one of nine scheduled in the next six weeks. Also attending were 14 presbytery representatives of the Synod of Virginia of the presbyterian Church . And the same number from lie Synod of Catawba of the United presbyterian Church u. . The Catawba Synod covers Virginia and North Carolina. The group conducting the con Ference is called the commit tee of 24." the committee was formed by both denominations last year to seek a plan of re Union of the two churches which split during the civil War. Lohn Dods of Kansas City mo., a committeeman for the presbyterian Church ., said the committee is working to Ward having a written plan for Union ready for general Assem Blies of both churches next sum Mer. Rev. Robert b. Smith of Tupelo miss., also a presbyterian Church . Committeeman said the committee has found much sentiment in favor of unification on the presbytery level and higher.
