Florence Morning News (Newspaper) - May 29, 1977, Florence, South CarolinaJudicial Bill vetoed Florence morning news sunday May 29, 1977-3-a Columbia Bill creating nine family court judges in addition to the 38 provided for in last year s judicial Reform act was vetoed saturday by gov. James b. Edwards. After careful thought and consultation with stale supreme court chief Justice James Woodrow Lewis it is my opinion that we should not add nine additional family court judges to the system at this he said. Edwards veto message which will be received by the Senate next tuesday said further that. We must allow sufficient time for the new family court system to begin serving Nur citizens and then after observing the system in full operation we can determine if any revisions Are the Bill will go Back to the Senate because that is where it originated. The Senate can either sustain or override the veto if it is sustained the Bill is dead. If it is overridden it will be sent to the House for a vote on whether to sustain or override. Last week the Senate agreed to ask the governor to return the Bill realizing he was going to veto it so a Compromise might be worked out. Hut the House look no action leaving the governor no Choice but to sign the Bill or veto it.
