Mrs. Flowers says that the craving for More and More camellias is consumed her Lily bed com jct Ely and that her Rose Garden s now being seriously threatened. These camellia plants Range in Leight irom fifteen feet to the smaller one year grafts. Surely the Flower show on february 19th and 20th at the Parish House can expect great things from the Flowers. Mrs. Flowers consented to write a Short history of their experiences in camellia collecting and culture. It was in the fall of 1935 when we planted our first Japonica Sarah Frost which bloomed the Fol lowing Spring. We thought it was Beautiful but several years later used it for grafting Stock. We secured All the Cata logs and Litera Ture we could find available Stu died this material thoroughly and became a in the following Spring we drove to Summerville and purchased Tiree plants Pink perfection. Ele Loans and Enrico Bettoni. We planted these plants too deep and Only had one Plant to live which has grown to be a tree. Our Start in the growing of camellias was basically experimental which has proved to be a most satisfying Hobby. Common sense in camellia planting demands Well drained soil of suitable Aci Dity moisture and adequate food. Shallow planting is a Well known must of successful camellia Cul Ture. In 1944 we made our first graft endeavouring to produce Dif Ferent forms of some varieties with a change in the Blooming per Iod size color and forms of bet Ter known types. During the past few years our interest has continued to grow and we have a varied collection of Choice varieties in our Garden. We find it very fascinating to propagate by the various Neth such As rooting grafting and air layering. Camellias have brought much Joy to our lives and we consider this Fine Flower the Queen of the Broadleaf final clearance on All Winter clothes Price we must Moke room for Spring and summer merchandise.
