Farmington Daily Times (Newspaper) - October 22, 1972, Farmington, New Mexico 2a-nday, oct. 22, 1972 Farmington . Daily time Edward g. Says humor key to Success in film world Hollywood a Quot what you have to do in our profession is maintain your sense of humor. When you feel yourself starting to get serious that s when you should Start smiling. When you get More serious break out laughing. That s the Only Way to keep your Edward g. Robinson was philosophizing about his l my survival in the film world. For proof of his theory he offered the example of another relic of the gangster movie Era a Quot he won some awards and then l came s i dignified that he lost touch with it could never happen to Foldie Robinson. He continues his distinguished acting career with a twinkle in his Eye refusing to be impressed with Hollywood or Hir self Robinson demonstrated his attitude recently when Mem gave him a Champagne reception to celebrate his 101st movie Quot solent Green Quot a science fiction Story about Over population in the 21st Century. Costar Charlton Heston delivered a flowery speech s old time leading lady Joan Blondell gave him a kiss and onetime in it is Jack Warner tossed in some . Robinson Cut a cake and responded with gracious thanks. Uter he admitted Quot this county agent notes fair needs explained by Orion Iron what about the Bond Issue for improvements at Mccree Park Are the proposed buildings really needed it is my sincere opinion the there is a very definite need for a Large livestock exhibit building to replace the three pole Type buildings that serve now As Swine and sheep exhibit barns. These buildings were built with Volunteer labor and inexpensive building material. They have served their purpose in the past but the fair has grown to the extent that they Are no longer adequate. They do present a safety Hazard both to the livestock on exhibit and to the viewing Public. Sometime whether it is now or a few years off they will have to be torn Down. It is my Hope that the Bond Issue will pass and they can be replaced with a Good sound Structure that everyone can look on with Pride. Next on the list of proposed improvements is the building of several rest rooms at various locations on the Fairgrounds. The rest room facilities at the Fairgrounds now just Aren t adequate to handle the crowds that use the Fairgrounds. These facilities Are very much needed by existing uses of the Fairgrounds and their need is critical when considering any expansion of usage. Building More exhibit Sull for horses is Alao one of the proposed uses of the Bond Issue funds. At present time there Are 55 stalls just about half enough to serve the present need during fair time. These stalls Are also rented during the year and As such they Are income producing for the county. Adequate fact uses for put Ting on horse shows could provide quite a stimulus for additional growth of the horse Industry in the county. Also in the proposed improvement is an Entrance and a mall Type area so the flow of spectators through the exhibits can be leisurely and enjoyable. The development of tvs area will add considerable to the enhancement of the Beauty of the Fairgrounds As a whole. Beyond a doubt this whole four Comers area is and will be increasing in population and there is a Contu Nial need fee fact lines like Mcgee Park. The proposed Bond Issue is for 875,000, with the expected further development of the county and population Cost to individual property owners would be quite Studl about $.68 per year per 11,000 of assessed property valuation. A scale Model of the proposed improvement will be on display at various Public events Between now and election time and a pamphlet More fully describing the proposed improvements will be distributed in the county.
