Fairfield Ledger (Newspaper) - December 13, 1982, Fairfield, Iowa Iowa a first female priest sees nothing unusual in role Perry Iowa apr Willa Mikowski does not see her role As the first woman episcopal priest in Iowa As remarkable. A i do not see the role of a priest As being sexual a said the new priest at St. Martins episcopal Church in Perry. Men have special gifts As do women she said thus making the two sexes compatible. The Rev. Mikowski said the Ideal situation in a Church would be a Man and a woman priest. However the St. Martins congregation at first Felt differently. The head of the search committee John Powell said a majority of Church members indicated they did not want a woman priest. But mrs. Mikowski was the most qualified of the five candidates interviewed Powell said and was one of two women interviewed for the position.
