Carmen Kapke of Fairbury will finish her High school track career in style at the class b state meet. Kapke a senior qualified for state in four individual events. At districts Kapke tied for second place in the High jump with a leap of 5-2 was first in the 400-meter dash in 61.1 finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.2 and was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.7 seconds. Also qualifying for state for the Fairbury girls were Mary Rosener and Danyel Grammer. Rosener a freshman finished second in the District meet in the Long jump with a leap of 16-6 3/4. Grammer a Sophomore was fourth in the 3200-meter run at districts in a time of 12 31.1. Other athletes who placed at the District meet but did not qualify for state included any Rosener Long jump fourth 16-5 3/4 Joanie Warnke discus fifth 113-7, and shot put sixth 36-2 1/4. Grammer did not place in the 1600-meter run but she did set a school record in the event with a to a a of 5 47.9. The old record was set in 1979 by Kay Moore at 5 48.8. Fairbury finished third in the team standings at the District meet York was first with 91 Points followed by grand Island Northwest 83 Aurora 48 Central City 47 Crete 43 Seward 42 Adams Central 25 tri county 16 grand Island Central Catholic 16 and Superior one. Tri county qualified two girls for the class b state meet a Michelle Clifford and Deanna Hermsmeier. Clifford a Sophomore finished Fott rth in the shot put but her performance of 38-3 1/2 was Over the state qualifying Standard. Hermsmeier a freshman was second in the 800-meter run at the District meet in a time of 2 28.1. Also participating for the lady trojans but not qualifying for state were Clifford discus sixth 112-11 1600-meter relay team Jenny Pohlmann Kim Derscheid Hermsmeier and Heather Esau fifth 4 19.3 and 3200-meter relay team Jane Schwerman Esau Hermsmeier and Pohlman sixth 10 52.6. York won the class b-3 District boys championship with 120 Points followed by Crete 84 grand Island Northwest 75 Central City 58 Seward 55 Superior 38 Fairbury 31 Aurora 29 Adams Central 28 1/2 tri county 6 1/2 and grand Island Central Catholic two. Fairbury 8 boys team qualified two athletes in three events for state. Mike Dodge a senior was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.4 and second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.6. Mark Wiedegreen also a senior finished second in the Long jump with a leap of 21-6. Placing for the Jeffs in the District meet but not qualifying for state were Shawn Anthony 400-meter dash fifth 52.5 Sam West 3200-meter run fifth 10 24.2 Brian Wegele 800-meter run sixth 2 05.9 and 1600-meter relay team Anthony Dodge Josh Swartz and Wegel fourth 3 31.5. The 1600-meter relay team for Fairbury has an outside Chance of qualifying for the state meet depending on times turned in from other districts. Tacy Holsing a senior Only state qualifier for tri county in the boys division he finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.3. Also placing for the trojans were Brian Jantzen pole vault sixth 12-6 and 1600-meter relay team Chris Esau Brian Haussler Chad Weichel and Jason Pieper fifth 3 37. Competing in the class d District meet at tri county on wednesday three members of the Diller boys track team qualified few state in two events each. Jon Morgan a senior qualified for state by winning the shot put with a put of 50-0 and the discus with a throw of 134-5. Chad Lottman a Sophomore please turn to Page 5a
