Nobody can even give an educate guess As to the number of places Cater ing to the youngsters frenetic search for amusement but there is no doubt that they number in the thousands. They Range from dark Hole in the Wall hideaways with Well worn loud record players to fancy Chrome plated establishments with professional go go girls and expensive loud stereo setups. Many of the places catering mainly to the teenage crowd sell nothing stronger than soda pop to assuage the thirst of the hard working customers others provide Beer and wine for the gyrating dancers. The music is a psychic trauma and a complicate system of nine electronic projectors flashes Ever changing abstractions on the Walls. In the swirl of color one occasionally glimpses phrases of English such As get stoned and As Many As 2,000 souls or perhaps we should say psyches Are packed into the multilevel dance Palace at one cannot strictly be called a discotheque because the music is Altern tingly live and recorded. A beat band appears from time to time in the evenings but when it is not performing a Leggy blonde on a Little Balcony High overhead announce disks such As i just need someone to love to which she does her own go go dancing. At the blow up which got its name from the Antonioni film everything moves blinks thunders and shocks Inan audacious manner and the Joys of quiet contemplation Are not to be , which seems to have taken hold of the beatles and other Long haired youths will never sprout at the blow up where All the senses Are tied up with immediate screaming confrontations. Riding in on the Crest of the hippie excitement the blow up opened in october with a party which featured squad of imported Flower people from the United states. These Guys wore lots of beads and paper Flowers but since they obviously were in the hippie business for profit their Philosoph. Seemed As phony As their posies. The blow out at the blow up was climaxed with a paint in which reaped columns in the next Day newspapers. Most of the dancers gyrate at the Bot Tom level of the big room but others add to the action from rounded Pavilion which protrude from the sides at several Heights. There also Are balconies fro which visitors can stare. Looking Down into the bubbling caul Dron one is Likely to be struck by several thoughts which he has difficulty in assembling until later German youngsters Are formal an self conscious and never seem Able to let themselves go with the ease of Ameri can teenagers. Sledgehammer rhythm dulls the senses a great Many people Lack the ability to keep time in dancing. To hold a girl in yom arms 30 year Sago and Glide around to the strains of stardust As played by Glenn Miller was a belter Deal than this.
